Ooohhhhh, very nice

Are they the same as the suspension fitted to your Red GTI?

Hi Steve

Sorry there not, the ones fitted to the red GTI you drove are our Race Kit, which have a modified damper body and camber plates.

Main difference between road and race kit is spring rates and internal valves, race kit is noisy as we are not worried about cabin noise on the race cars, also means the damper bodies can be built lighter.

I will be fitting a set to the red GTI and doing comparison tests very shortly.

Cheers

Mark

^^^ Thanks for the explanation Mark  :happy2:

After driving your GTI it made mine feel like it had jelly instead of dampers  :xmaslaugh:

If you are ever in need of a test pilot when you fit a set of these then you know where to find me  :signLOL:

^^^^

The other point about the Race Kit (Mark can correct me if I'm wrong) is that they aren't stainless steel but are galvanised as they don't need to last thousands and thousands of miles with minimal maintenance on roads - It's Horses For Courses.

Thanks for the pics, Mark - They now bring the project to life, so to speak.

Are they the bespoke KW variant 3's or Clubsports?

By the way Mark, a friend of mine (James Stewart) was telling me about some 6-pot brakes you had in development a while back, are you planning to sell these?? Any info would be appreciated.

Mike.

....Mine (in the pics) are VWR bespoke KW-V3's. We decided not to go for the Clubsports as I wasn't happy about them having no warranty as they are specifically for trackday use on a road car. Having said that, KW have only had 2 failures since they were first introduced and did anyway replace them AFAIK. Due to my experience with Koni, I wanted lifetime warranty.

....TeeHee! You spotted it  - I best let Mark answer that

So you thought you knew who The Stig was did you

I will let on that the time is genuine, so I believe.

....

Revisiting this thread and seeing those pics of my VWR dampers today has really made me feel as if Christmas Day has come already! I'm really excited and looking forward to getting them fitted now. My car is running very sweetly at the moment.

VWR are going to fit my AntiLift kit in the same workshop session. Whoooopeeee!! :jumpmove:

Nice one RR :happy2:

Christmas isn't Christmas if you don't get any decent presents eh

Those V3's and the WALK will make another big difference to the handling of the car for sure.

Looks like I'm going to have to step up to the plate with my modding regime. :innocent:

Robin, as far as handling is concerned I think your car will be the yard stick as far as the rest of us are concerned! Please don't let me drive your car until Im at least part way towards your mods

....I'm sure that VWR would be more than happy to accommodate you.

Long story short (already posted lots of times) - KoniFSD dampers gone soft and going back to Koni Holland for bench testing and hopefully a new set under warranty (Greenouse has first dibs). Meanwhile as I have much faith in VWR/RacingLine, I have taken the opportunity to upgrade my suspension. I'm more inclined to exploit my car's handling and delivery of whatever power it has rather than chase the neddie numbers.

^ KW's finest: Bespoke VWR-KW V3's :happy2: 8) :happy2:

Sorry if I've missed this somewhere along the line, but what aspect of them is bespoke from a normal V3??

....Mark from VWR can answer this more accurately but because VWR have a "technical partnership" with KW Germany, they are able to specifically mix and match etc. So, I think that my spring ratings are different from the ones straight out of box on a retailer's shelf. There may be other differences but I'll have to get back to you about them.

Some of VWR's KW's have an angle engineered into the damper body.

How much are the VW racing coilovers?

....It depends what you want - Fast Road or Track? - Neither an off-the-shelf item. Contact Mark at VWR and discuss your needs.
