Title: Brake disk rust help
Post by: KTR on August 21, 2016, 05:16:45 pm
Hi guys,

I have recently acquired a black 56 plate gti, I have really become fond of the car in a short space of time,I have a question though. The car was sitting at a dealer for around 2 months before a private garage bought it. I'm not sure if this is the reason but there is pretty prominent rust on the disks. I thought that a few hard stops would clear it but it has not. Any suggestion on a way to rectify this? Also will this affect the physical braking power in anyway? The only little gripe I have with the car is that the brakes are not as "immediate" as I would like.

Yes a few hard stops should clear the surface rust. Does it have circles of rust or the same all over? As circles could be a sign of uneven pads.

Post some pictures, if the discs are pitted then some spirited braking won't sort them, surface rust should clean up after a few miles. Brembo ones are cheap enough from the dealers

Front or Rear?

Very common for the Brake Calipers to go, Especially the rears!
