Title: Service book stamp issue!
Post by: Dazf3110 on August 22, 2016, 08:43:14 pm
Evening everyone, new to the forum and new to recently purchasing my MK5 GTI witch ive fallen in love with. Anyway it has full VW service history at Stratford upon avon but they have not stamped the book when carrying out the last service just before i purchased the vehicle. I was wondering would i be able to take the invoice/receipt of the service to my local VW dealership and have them stamp the book for me although the service was done at Stratford? If anyone can help it would be much appriciated.

Thanks Daz

You'll need to go in and they'll stamp it for you  :happy2:

I had a similar issue when I purchased my Golf. You would either need to go into the original VW dealership that carried out the service or post the book to them for them to stamp it up.

I had to post mine to them, with a covering letter. I would telephone them first and speak to someone in servicing, get a name and post to them specifically, so they can deal with it.

I know it sounds long, but I even contacted VW head office and they told me the same thing. I had to send my service book to 3 different VW dealerships to obtain all the stamps in the end!

Let us know how you get on.

This is exactly what I was told to do - never bothered, but the option is there - may do, one day. Was worried about the service book getting lost in the post!

If your local dealer is part of the same dealer network they may be willing to stamp it, if not they won't. If they stamp it and haven't done the work they are putting their name to someone else's work and therefore any liability. If you can find a dealer from the same dealer network closer to you they may be willing to do it. Other option is a road trip to the dealer that did the work. To be fair you have the invoice so you can prove its been done if you need to. I wouldn't trust the post/dealer to get the book stamped and sent back to me either

I'd say that if you have the receipts then that's a better record of work done and when than a stamp in the book.

Stamps of all kind are available on e-bay

This....

Receipts of work carried out are much more use as they have stuff like chassis number, reg plate, parts used etc. I've never really looked at stamps when I've viewed cars, mainly paperwork.
