Title: Cam chain adjuster?
Post by: GTIEagles on September 09, 2016, 10:01:40 pm
After changing the oil pickup pipe today I noticed a few plastic pieces in the sump which is usually a tell tale sign of the cam chain tensioner breaking up. Is it essential to replace the adjuster or can I just get away with replacing the chain and tensioner?

Hi, I'd say it was always best to replace the tensioner including the chain, as they can stretch. Just for piece of mind!

No need to do the adjuster unless there's an issue with it.

Chain. Tensioner.

VW want £400 for the adjuster! So just gone with the other bits, it's all booked in next Monday. Looking forward to a relatively quiet engine!
