I'm looking to wire in my handsfree kit... And I followed a guide on another forum which was very useful up to the point of running the power from the cig lighter. It was said in his guide that the cig lighter is switched to ignition, but mine is permanent live, so willl drain the battery. I've since read that early gti's perhaps until 06, the cig lighter was permanent live and on later they changed.
So where would I run the red power cable from the iOS harness to, ie where is best to connect in to for ignition on/off. And do I need to include a fuse? Bit of a novice in this area!
Many thanks! Pic showing the red cable of the iOS harness...

Doing a bit of reading it appears that I may be able to wire it to a thick black wire, from behind the drivers side fuse box?

On the side fuse panel find any spare ignition fuse ( use the tester or any 12v bulb with 2 wires +/-.), put the wire there, you will need the correct pin and add the fuse, will look like OEM. How to do that you can look on the google. Or use existing one, split the wire and solder it. Always use a fuse.

Thanks for the reply Pashka!
I've found the number 10 fuse 'slot' to be ignition, (was for telephone prep) so I plan to use this...
So just to clarify...
What do you mean by the 'correct pin? Do you mean I need to wire in the red wire from behind the fuse panel? Can I use something like a fuse tap, a micro one in this case? What size fuse do I need? I am pretty useless at electrics so bear with me..lol

You have a bare red wire from the parrot, to put it to the new fuse slot you will need a pin, I think this one, but not for sure

Need to split it half and solder 1 ending to parrot wire and put to the free fuse slot or do like you said on the 1st post, use exsisting one.

Ah ok, making more sense! So using one that is there already...I'd use the lead that you linked to and insert that into the 'bottom slot' of, say number 10, which I tested already, and then just fire a fuse in to the slot to bridge from existing wire and my new red wire with that connection from eBay.?
What size fuse? 5 amp?
As an aside, could I use power going to the aircon? And tap in to its power source?

So I think this is what I need..http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vw-Audi-Seat-Skoda-Repair-Wire-000979021E-/252520530281?hash=item3acb658169:g:AcAAAOSwNSxVEJ3L
Plus a 5 amp micro fuse.
And I found this guide on how to remove the fuse panel..

Hopefully this should work out!

Does anyone know what fuse size I should be going for? Would 15 amp micro fuse be good?

10 will be fine. If you dont want to mess adding the new fuse, just buy one like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ADD-A-CIRCUIT-FUSE-PIGGY-BACK-TAP-STANDARD-FUSE-HOLDER-ATO-ATC-12v-24v-VOLT-/251935755184?hash=item3aa88a8bb0:g:NAEAAOSwV0RXvHYU

Thanks again Pashka
I've ordered a 1mm repair wire 000 979 133. And a bunch of fuses. :happy2:

Just to complete this thread...
I got the above repair wire delivered today and I fitted it in to the back of the fuse box in slot ten.
To do this I removed the piece of trim beside the steering wheel so that I could access the back of the fuse box. I inserted the repair wire in to the lower half of slot ten, and then put a 5 amp fuse in to the front.
I now have a working hands free parrot kit which is powered by ignition on and off! Result!

Its easier to do these on the MK6 golf as they have live and switched to the cig. lighter
