i know we have had this discussion many a time but this is based on a time issue for me
i would like the blueflame due to the responses on here and the "added#" burble when i fit my r32 rear!
but bf are not able to supply me with their r32 catback system and cant give me a date for when the new development will be ready- i have the dosh in hand and i am a nasty impatient b#gg#r when i want a new toy so do i wa it or do i look at the milly
will that give me what ive heard the bf will in look and burble and drone and noise and vrooom?
if this is too much of a repeat thread can someone point me to the threads as i,m at work and wont get to this till wkend properly and amiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimpatient and want my new ars on the car asap :sad1: :booty:
thanks velly muchly

give nigel a call at blueflame and tell him u want it doing at there place ie a custom job to your car and then its just a case of booking u in for it doing  thats what i always do and what TC did when they did his
-
....
Blueflame will sound slightly harsher and louder (sportier?) and Milltek will sound more sophisticated (Mat and TC are unsophisticated northerners :P ) depending on whether resonated or non-resonated systems - Non-res is louder.
Sound is very subjective.
-
robin even vwr love my blueflame and said they would run them as they sound  but due to sponsors cant :P but they might be looking into it
-
Northern me :P

....Don't get me wrong - If I didn't have the exceptionally good relationship I have with Milltek and was buying again, Blueflame would be seriously considered alongside Milltek.
As an enthusiast I enjoy hearing a Blueflame but am not sure the sound is for me (don't forget my age!).
-
trust me Robin its not that loud unless driving hard :driver: its very chilled at normal everyday driving and does not drone at all
-
^^^^
Then Blueflame is deffo a serious contender as far as I'm concerned but I'm very happy with my Milly and the customer service/support I get.
-
loud is an unterstatement! when i boot it im sure they can hear it up north!

:jumpmove: :jumpmove: u like it then

....
I once had an unmarked Police car trail me for 10 miles whose chase was triggered, so he told me, by my Milly working hard up a hill. I didn't get a ticket.
-
thanks guys
i have had few email chats with nigel and he hs been very helpful and i would love to buy the whole system-but cost is an issue- and for the catback system its just time constraint.
i suppose i wait any longer i could almost afford the whole system lol!
thanks again
and i,m thinking i,ll wait. esp as ive got a cambelt to pay for next week :sad1:

Having seen both close up, i think the Blue-flame bespoke route (as Matt alludes to above) would be my preferred option. you can have it sounding just as you want, and can watch the fit.
There Seems to be have been a few cases of Milltek Unhappiness over the recent times..............
:happy2:
-
The only thing that would concern me is the noise. Now everyone knows I love a bit of noise from the car (Non res on the R32!) but after having one of the Blueflame owners :innocent: tell me it does there head in on the motorway! I would have to consider this as my Milltek is a perfect gent on the Motorway but then pops and bangs when hot and I want a quick blast!
Either way a Miltek vs Blueflame thread is pointless as either side will defend what they have, human nature! :happy2:
-
I agree Nath, it just concerns me with regards the amount of milltek problems. It would be good to see how many are due to incorrect fit.

A lot more Miltek out there than Blueflame.............................
From what Phil from Miltek was saying the most common faults are down to incorrect fitting. And if anything does go wrong they bend over backwards to fix it. It's mass produced not custom so there's bound to be the odd failure here and there.
-
thanks guys
i did not intend a one vs the other thread on a critiscm basis just wehter guys with experience on here thought it worth the wait or let my impatience run riot and go milly cos its quicker to get deliverd
and going there to get custom fitted is not an option for me due to work constraints so it will be deliverd and the guys fitting the r32 rear will do it all at same time!
to his credit nigel from BF did offer that free custom fir for me to get things moving along! and i have considered it. but then i,m also thinking of mugging a security guard and just going for the full system cos thats also quicker to be delivered :rolleye: :scared: :ashamed:
so ill shut up sit tight and keep saving......... PS if theyre watching "HURRY UP BLUEFLAME"" :fighting:

i had milltek before the blueflame and its a nice system but i dont like mass produced stuff that every tom dick and harry have so hence me getting getting blueflame to start making a system for our cars and me being the test pilot :happy2:

Which am I Mat? Tom, Dick, or Harry?
And anyone that says Dick will suffer the consequences! :signLOL:

nathan, you my friend are Richard!
:happy2:

Nath your just special

Special needs!

:pomppomp:THINK U WALKED INTO THAT MATE!

    @ the Tom Dick or Harry banter :happy2:
Nathan took the words out of my mouth: Milltek faults are very often down to their distributor installers and Milltek bend over backwards to put things right.
But, I don't think that many of us are saying that Blueflame is better than Milltek or vica-versa - They are both very good and it's natural to sing the praises of what we each like.

Robin,
my personal experience of milltek, is of a poor welded joint on a mid box (res sect). I had it re-welded, and the chap doing the job, remarked on the poor penetration (fnarr fnarr!!), so much so he re-welded all the joints. It could have been a one off, my current Milltek has been ok, and fits well.
The whole problem with Mods, is the fact that you are moving away from the norm. Space maybe more limited, parts stressed further, and in cases development not carried out to the VW extent/fully (not aimed at any company in particular), so you have to expect problems.
I cannot comment on Milltek's customer care, as i don't have experience, i had to reweld the box on a friday evening, due to needing the car for the following day.

Indeed we do Robin. I only report open and honest. I am not sure why you said that.
My observations are open and honest, I did not like the Superchips map, i felt it detracted away from the driveability, I did not say it was in any way bad. Some love them; it did not suit me.
My observations regards the Engine mounts - was they were too harsh, and detracted away from my enjoyment, remember i tried them to eliminate a problem caused by the fitment of a Quaife. something I am still exploring with the people who fitted the Diff.
My observation of the BSH catch can was wholeheartedly good. With very very very minor niggles, that were overcome by decent dialogue with dubtek.
My observations regards Miltek, was a cracked weld, something i had the capability and capacity to fix, but should the forum know about it, wholeheartedly yes. to make sure that they make the own opinions. Miltek have not been engaged, as I needed the car. The aerospace certified welder I had reweld the joint commented on the weld and lack of penettration, perhaps as i said above a one off.
My observations of Dave B BBK (porker calipers) was wholeheartedly positive, yet that mod was not without hurdles, but fair and honest reporting ensued, and with dialogue all problems have been overcome.
Open and honest? I think so.
tell me RR have you have any problems and tried to resolve? by your statement that you hear of my problems, i take it you are congratulating me on my engineering prowess, and drive to ensure others have open and honest reporting from another forum member to assist them, yes assist them.
I am not a hardwired designer, but I am an engineer, and hope that my 28 years experience in recognising poor welds, poor fitment (do you want to see the pictures of the bracket and loom that were left off during the fit of the quaife?), I can comment of poor mechanical design (notice i said mechanical design, not aesthetics). Others may comment on website design, insurance, and their fields of speciality. I comment on engineering.
Perhaps I should not bother, with comments like yours; I sometimes wonder why I do. I seem to always be at odds with you; perhaps I should just avoid commenting on the site.
Thanks all. But it was coming, I have no favourite companies, I am not sponsored by any companies, I am paid by the taxpayer, and think I do add value to the site.
as I have said, with mods, you are deviating from the well trodden path, so expect to get muddy at times, I do, and i awlways report open and honestly.

I think it would be a shame if you stopped posting on the site QD! You are a part of the team here man! :drinking:

@ stokeballoon:
Unfortunately, you seem to have misinterpreted my post, Dave, in that I'm in no way challenging your honesty or openness. Or indeed your right to express your opinions/views based on your experiences or otherwise. Far from.
I can't say I even begin to understand what the taxpayer has to do with any of this though.
You are most definitely a much loved and appreciated member on this site, Dave, and don't need to feel so offended that you consider "not bothering" and most certainly not just on my account.
Whether my experiences/views are directly opposite or not to yours, I greatly respect your particular opinions, Dave, and read your reviews with great interest.
-
Robin,
are you saying that you have had not negative aspects to your mods?
how else was i to interpret your post?
....I'm sorry that that is your experience but I tend to hear the same story from you about most of your mods. My experiences have been different and more positive - We can each only report our individual findings. :happy2:

Hi Dave,
I'm struggling to think off-hand which, if any (surely there must be some), of my mods I've had particularly bad experiences of. Certainly there are mods I needn't have bothered with in hindsight. I probably deal with problems differently than you do and may be more 'forgiving' towards a company that makes a mistake.
But I think you set yourself much higher standards than I do and knowing your engineering background applied to machines such as helicopters where it's obviously essential for safety, you are right to do so.
I apologise if my words either upset/offended you or were ambiguous - No offence was intended.

Anyhoo back to the original topic, I just got a blueflame last night TBH ive heard it was louder than the miltek, but ive also heard that it does not suffer from the motorway Droan, Which the guy i spoke to at blueflame assured me off. Im hoping its not too loud and i was also assured that it will pass track noise emmissions, Also cant beat the price either i paid £310.. i think it was no more than £330 for the cat back which i thought was a bit of a bargain, Ive had a Miltek on my Mk4 Gti which i liked it suffer a bit from droan but it was still a good system and i could live with the droan no bother as it wasnt that bad, Since then ive had an eisenmann which was amazing twice as loud as the miltek with no droan, I thought id give the blueflame a try as ive never heard a bad word about it, i really like the slash cut tail pipes, the R32 rear does look good though, i dont think i could hold out if i had the cash waiting though
-
:jumpmove: :jumpmove: nice one enjoy it
-

Re drone sounds: I think you'll find that when stainless steel pipes are new before coking up, and also when very cold, there'll be more droney types of noise.
Btw, Milltek are now producing titanium exhausts but not for our lowly GTI's - 3x the cost.
Enjoy your Blueflame :happy2:
-
Cheers guys !
Just done a search on the blueflame and there seems to be a few who say they are loud......... Yikes... :scared:
But they all have smiles on the posts so the must be loud in a good way.............................I hope
-
it makes the car sound like a tuned up evo  will not get over how chilled it is on the mtr way and around town but open her up and
-
i find it can be a bit droney on the motorway in the morning but in the evening its ok. personally i think its a little bit louder than i thought it should be, when i live in a very quiet town and leave for work very early i sometimes worry its gonna wake people up even just pottering through! its mental when you give it beans !
-
Great thread...stokeballoon thought your "war and peace" post was on the spot. :drinking:
I can say that I'm probably the unluckiest member of the forum...every single mod I have had has required revisiting/correction, etc.
I guess its part of the "fun"... :stupid:
BTW... got a milly and I'm reasonably happy with it - apart from the recent TBE fitting issue being looked into.
I got to say I was a bit disappointed with Milltek upon raising a concern with the "fitting" of their TBE. Their customer service fobbed me off by saying it couldn't be an issue with their part and that I should go back to the people who fitted it.

This is also my experience of the Blueflame, its like it has a mind of its own, depends what mood its in
If i have been out for a good blast and the zorst is really hot, for me it sounds too loud, though my back seats have been out since September :rolleye:, it feels like the world can hear me coming. :ashamed:
-
All exhausts will drone with no seats in it Tc lol

i think it helps if you go for the full system and sports cat makes it flow easier and will probably be louder too im guessing.. :happy2:

Matsu, don't worry about the noise - just the "babylon" :pomppomp:
