Title: 30-130mph day!
Post by: Shins on January 21, 2010, 05:48:35 pm
Hi guy's, just popping back on a few of the forums I frequent to ask any hot hatches if they'd like to come along to this event, held by the MLR at Raf Marham on Sunday 14th March! This filled quickly last year so get your details in quick to avoid disappointment!

As I recall there was about 3-4 GTi's that took part last year and did very well too! :happy2:

All info in the thread! :happy2:  http://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=303139

Gutted about this one.. Would have loved to do it but im away.. Going off some private testing results, the little GTI would blow away LOTS of those big power Evo's which would be pretty good fun!!

now that to me makes more sense than 1/4 miles, it takes the drivers ability to drive off the line efficiently out of the equation.

shame you cant make that jonny. would have been good to see how she performed

30 - 130mph is about the best test you can have really.. Thats real world performance.. No BS 0-60 times etc.. They mean nothing!

I still think 1/4 mile times are a very good indication of a cars performance though, but your right, there is more chance of the driver having an impact on the times than a 30 - 130 test..

tis true, if we had identical cars there would be no way you would be able to keep up with me down the raceway cos of my supreme experience at traffic light gran prixs. :P

its a good point though. I could never match you times at the pod even with your car. Ability and technique are a massive factor

Yeah, was an awesome day and did pretty well against some of the powerfull Scoobs and Evo's. But there were some VERY quick machines there Jonny and would love to of seen yours perform. But there was stuff there that would even make yours look slow belive it or not.. Cars running 6 seconds etc..  :surprised:

No-one realised yet that this is the same day as Ultimate Dubs show!! :rolleye:

I'd love to go to this, but have already committed to Ultimate Dubs.

I doubt if I'd get near the 6 seconds as I think Ben did around 22 seconds last year.

May still be up for coming mate, as I know my old man is wanting to run his car (E60 M5) before he changes it in June. Plus my mate maybe interested in taking his S3 too.

Hi Guys,

Thanks to Shins for posting the 30-130 details here - you're all welcome on Sunday 14th March.  Some of you know how the day runs anyway, but for those who don't it's all included in the link.  BUT... please pay particular attention to these points;

- ANYONE coming to the event must have been security cleared by the RAF beforehand, so if you're even thinking of coming you must send me your details  as listed in the info by 12th February (please send to darin@lancerregister.com).  Please don't think you can book this the week before and rock up on the day because you won't get in.

- We are limited to a max of 60 cars, so any spectators must come with someone who is booked to take part in the event and I need their info too of course

- ALL cars need to have a fire extinguisher fitted before they're allowed to run

- ALL cars need to have an accessible towing eye in case they need recovery

Just to clarify a couple of points...

no cameras are allowed as its on an active military base mate  :happy2:

Personal photography will be allowed this time, but any video cameras need to be used inside the car as Marham need to minmise the risk of debris on the runway

and you have to sign all sorts of forms too........PITA!!!

You'll need to send me your details for security clearance to get on the base (see above) and just register at the gatehouse when you arrive, but the only form you have to sign is one indemnity the same as you would at a trackday, so it's not too intense!

And finally - Mechell and I will be out of the country from Sunday 24/1 to Tuesday 2/2, so please call to book either side of these dates.  I'll be trying to keep up with email but please be patient if you have any questions! :)

Think that's it from me - look forward to seeing some of you at Marham  :happy2:

Best thing to do is let us have all your details so we can submit them to the RAF in case you CAN attend - and you can call Chell later to pay (assuming there's a place of course!)   If you find you can attend but haven't given us your details, you won't be allowed in anyway!!   :sad1:

Nice to see Neil and Cohiba there today and good to see them flying the VW name high against the competition (Hot Hatches).
http://www.lancerregister.com/mlrsprint/30130results.php?eventid=20100314&last=5
Have to say Cohiba's time and top speed was mighty impressive and was only just under 3 secs slower than my old man's M5..  :surprised:
Just a shame I couldn't of run myself as would of loved to of compared to last year with the weather being spot on..

Will post some pics up later, but here's a quick vid of the old man's M5 hitting the bloody speed limiter  :fighting: (which we wasn't 100% had one until today as his last M3 didn't :sad1:)

Bloody shame really as we were looking forward to seeing what the old tank would do..
