Title: Dampers
Post by: leem5 on September 25, 2016, 01:41:48 pm
Anyone fitted different dampers to the rear whilst maintaining the oem fronts? Rears seem to be some form of Bilsteins going by the colour (not sure on spec).
Bought the car this way and to be fair it generally rides Ok but sometimes it can get upset with its secondary rebound.
As it's a daily I'm happy to stay oem but if the Bilsteins are just as comfortable on these I may get a pair to match on the front as the rears look clean and new.

A set of Bilstein fronts and some good springs all round to match the sport dampers would be my advice, small outlay for a noticeable improvement in handling. I had B14 coilovers on my Golf GTI and the ride was amazing even with them wound all the way down (55mm drop). For a daily driver, the B4 range with some Eibach/H&R springs is ideal.

I'd also recommend anti roll bars, at the least get the rear one upgraded too. Another small outlay for a massive improvement in handling.

I have Koni Sport (yellows) on the rear with OEM fronts.  The Konis are set to the softest setting, which apparently is Koni's recommendation to best match OEM rates.  To be honest there isn't much improvement with teh Konis.  I think the OEM sachs are just as good.
