Title: Golf MK5 5 speed difficult gear change and noise
Post by: dk16 on September 27, 2016, 10:06:22 pm
Doesn't matter whether the engine is on/off. It's really difficult to get into any gear (especially fifth) and every time I change gears, I hear a clunk coming from down below.

It's a 1.9 TDI 5 speed and done just over 150k miles. Any ideas? Should I try a gearbox oil change?

If its not going into gear then I don't think an oil change will help.

It could be any number of issues from the box itself, a broken mount or perhaps a busted flywheel/clutch?

Best to get it to a garage.

Cheers mate. I took my car to a few mechanics and they said my clutch is on it's way out. I initially changed the master cylinder as we thought this is why the pedal was sticking but it wasn't.

Mate quoted me £630 for the clutch + flywheel + labour. Does that sound reasonable?
