Title: Plasti dip interior colours?
Post by: Superliminal on October 04, 2016, 06:15:06 pm
Hi all. My interior door pulls are badly scratched, as are the bits on steering wheel (where the msfw buttons would be if I had them). Has anyone had a go at plasti dipping them to tidy them up? If so, which shade of grey did you use?

My car's a stock '05 GTI

Cheers,
Matt

I saw a recent thread where someone sprayed the steering wheel inserts silver. Actually looked very oem and a better look than the original black/grey plastic. Not sure about plastidip, but I'd imagine the same rule applies.

hi, the plastic you can prise off and shouldnt be a problem if plastidipped but i dont know how durable it would be on the door handles as they are always in use, i wrapped mine in a satin carbon finish also all the trims and steering wheel :fighting:

Cheers guys. Perhaps a combination of your ideas would work on the wheel. Brushed aluminium wrap! Just need to find as close to OEM finish as possible.

Plasti dip should be OK on the handles. I've used it before and it's close to the original finish in terms of texture. It's surprisingly resilient too, if applied properly. I might just order a couple of cans of the dark greys and try it out.

Don't do it  :surprised:

I tried it on some track wheels. TBF it looked great when it was first done but that's about it.

Brake dust and dirt bonds like glue to plastidipped wheels...esp front wheels

That and the fact that you cannot clean the wheels hard enough without causing damage to the dip put me right off.

Plus....if you spray with the tyres off you will def damage the dip refitting the tyres, and if you leave the tyres on (like I did) you will always have a weak edge at the tyre rim.
