Title: Stuck in first gear

New to the forum.

So I was driving my car yesterday when I stopped at a traffic and put the car in first gear and took off again and then went to change to second and it didn't go into gear. Now parked up, the gear stick is loose flapping between 3rd and 4th gear. I can take off and drive but only in 1st.

Any help would be much appreciated

So the car can flick backwards and forwards between 3rd and 4th gear (position) but when you set off it's in 1st?

Despite the gear lever being in either 3rd or 4th? Sounds like possible linkage gone whilst in 1st gear, meaning you can't pull the car out of gear.

Took it to the garage and it was the link between the gearbox and gear stick had come out, for once nothing too expenisve
