Title: Question for DSG owners... shift noise?
Post by: slix on October 05, 2016, 09:31:04 pm
Question for dsg owners...

When you are stationary and it's quiet around, and you have windows open, when you shift from park through to drive can you hear a noticeable click/clunk coming from the gearbox area? Not too loud but definitely there. The same from drive back to park.

Not sure if it's nornal or not as I've never really noticed it before and as I said it's only noticeable when it's quiet around and the windows are down or door open.

Yes I get that too. I'm guessing it's pretty normal but best waiting for someone who's more in the know to shed some more light !

My dsg makes that noticeable clunk noise...it is seldom and rare but it does happen. Not paying enough attention to know if it is a certain way of parking or grade associated to it because of the rarity of its occurrence. Not sure if it only happens when I am close to its filter and fluid service for the same rarity reason. I have 132k miles now and no issues whatsoever with the DSG yet...wouldn't be concerned...I'm not.

Ok thanks, that's reassured me a bit so far. Car drives fine otherwise.

Maybe I should stop worrying about the smallest of noises and just enjoy the car  :rolleye:

Mine used to do it all the time. I ran like that for ages. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Stick to your DSG service schedule and you'll be fine :happy2:

I fitted a new dog bone mounting, with a powerflex insert and new engine mounts (for other reasons) and it definitely helped with the clunking :happy2:

it does help as old rubber mount don't help the situation at all.

Had my GTi a couple days and not noticed a loud noise.
With the windows down and music off,  you can hear it change however.
My gearbox oil and filter was changed 35k ago, so will be getting changed again next year once I'm closer to 40k  :happy2:

Mine does it too.

Just bought myself some VWR transmission mounts and will be servicing the DSG early next week. Will report back and let you know if there any improvements

I have all three mounts by BSH...still makes a subtle noise now and again, but not worried. Besides, if anything ever fails...I finally get the opportunity to add a LSD.

It's normally a bit louder I've found if you are parked on a hill.

Mine does it to so I'd guess it's pretty normal

Well I park next to a fence front and left hand side so that amplifies the sound a bit. And a slight 15 degree gradient too.

Oh how weird. Maybe it's just the clutch selector gripping. Not a nice noise but good to see I'm not the only person with it.

LOL amazing how complicated they are inside. And yeah the 2nd click/clank noise sounds exactly like it.
