Title: Service due Longlife oil???
Post by: stevie_p on January 22, 2010, 03:29:14 pm
soooo my 3rd service is due had a drive round a couple garages today. 1st one quoted £265!! :surprised: which seems pretty steep 2 me as im sure its only a oil/filter change. anyway i asked does that price include longlife oil, & was met with a confused looking girl and said 'but yours is time & distance service'.

2nd quoted me £125 which seems more like it. was told doesnt include longlife oil just the 'standard' vw oil. but i got the same reply - 'but yours is time & distance'!

should i be asking for longlife oil as it seems to be confusing the vw desk girls!!  & is it worth paying the extra for it??

They seem to get confused very, very easily. That's all the workers in general. My car was serviced in September and I still haven't found out what oil was used, the service girl said 10w40 (on T&D) but she kept avoiding what make. The parts guy said 5w30 long life  and the VW computer seems to think I'm on longlife servicing but my car says it's 8700 miles to the next service. It's all a mess  :signLOL:

I do this; I get mine serviced once a year (I only do about 6000 miles) but I ask for (and get) a longlife service.  I think the extra cost is worth it for the better oil as the car does get used pretty hard for those miles.

I don't confuse the service receptionist by saying that the car 'doesn't need a service but it does need a service even though the car doesn't think it needs a service'   :stupid:

My local dealer says they only use long life oil on gti's and r32's regardless of whether on t&d or Longlife.

I use a specialist now it's out of warranty and they do the same. It's amazing how inconsistent all these franchise dealers are.

Does anyone use VWR for normal servicing? I am thinking of getting my third service done there instead of at main dealer.

....Yes I do. I'm still very happy with my local VW dealer though. It's horses for courses and VWR are more familiar with my mods and can get VW parts very quickly. Proper stamp in the Handbook too.

I know you have managed to get a good deal at Crewe VW (LC Charles) and are using them but please don't ever consider using Barbers!!!

I run a VW approved bodyshop, also in Northwich, and know 1st hand how poor Barbers have become recently. We have had to collect vehicles from them as they cannot afford to purchase the parts to repair them :ashamed:

Also, when we dropped an 07 Passat off last week to have a key coded it was there for 3 days as the only technician that could do it was off sick!!!!!!!

I'm new on here & to GTI ownership...

I know the VW Wrexham dealer is currently offering a 3yr servicing + MOT for £250 - they've emailed me to let me know. It's on used cars (mines a 58 plate) not sure if there's a limit as to how old though? Sounds a very good deal to me, does anyone have any experience with them?

Alternatively it sounds as though LC Charles in Crewe are decent, they may have a similar "fixed deal" perhaps?

 thanks
