Title: GTI Handbrake Cover Replacement
Post by: Dappr on October 09, 2016, 05:42:35 am
Hi guys,
Has anyone found/written a detailed how-to guide/video for removing & replacing the leather handbrake cover on a MK5 Golf GTI?
Thanks

If you look underneath the handbrake you'll see a small slot, the handbrake cover (plastic and leather) are attached to the actual handbrake with this. Find a way to wedge it and it'll slide off easily

In the toolkit in the boot, there's a screwdriver as part of the kit, this makes it a 1 minute job

Cool, so you can acess it without pulling the center console apart?

I'm guessing the higher I lift the lever the better the access?

Thanks :)

Yes correct - you wouldn't need to disassemble the centre console.

If you try and look underneath the handbrake level, towards the back, you'll see the little clip. You just need to push this in and it should just slide off. The replacement one will just slide back in.

I changed mine to the Edition 30 one and it was literally a two minute job.

Good luck.
