Driving home from work today I went to give the gti a little hoon, traction control started kicking in so I let off the throttle and switched to second, after that the car started making a whooshing sound when accelerating and had lost power and kept either stalling or trying to stall, limped it home and checked it out and a pipe under the cambelt has come loose, I assume it's to do with the turbo as the car is now making a suction whooshing sound, different to the normal turbo sound, is this likely just to be a popped pipe that just needs reclipping or has something catastrophic happened
-
Yep...likely it just popped off. Perhaps wasn't clamped properly when some other work was performed. Should just need reattaching...but if it is the boost pipe(pictured below @ link) and has a large o-ring on the coupler, you may want to replace that o-ring before snapping it back together to insure it will hold all boost for years to come.
Does what you speak of look like this: http://c1552172.r72.cf0.rackcdn.com/106888_x600.jpg

Yeah that does look similar and would make sense, I looked on google and apparently it could be the turbo discharge pipe which looks a bit different to that, or is it the same thing, i regret to say I'm a real noob with all this stuff so you'll have to bear with me :signLOL:

This section looks to be from the cast bit of the discharge pipe to the intercooler.
