I have recently had an R-Tech stage 2+ on my 05 Gti and she's just been in for cambelt, tensioner, water pump and alternator belt. I've just got her back from the dealers and she feels a bit sluggish, am I just used to the new power or do they wipe it at the dealers?

They would probably have disconnected the battery when doing the timing belt that might have something to do with it mate

R-Tech maps aren't lost with battery disconnections but the dealer might have "updated" your engine ECU making you lose the remap. Other than that a failed DV can also be the problem and be completely unrelated to the maintenance done recently. Check with your mechanic if the boost is right, for example, or contact R-Tech for a diagnosis on the map.

Ah okay :) I'll have to go for a spirited drive tomorrow, just to make double sure...if not I'll have to give R-tech a ring on Monday, as they did a GFB DV+ for me when it was remapped

So no split DV then. I have a GFB DV+ and I don't think it can fail easily. Check if the cambelt was correctly fitted and the timing isn't out.

How would I go about that?

How would I go about that?
A mechanic can do it. I think the engine has to be put in TDC (top dead centre) to see if the timing belt mark matches the engine mark. Other than that a log can help too, I think.
Others more knowledgeable might help more how to check that.

Ah okay :) thanks buddy, I appreciate it :)

R-Tech map can reset to map 1 if you have the 5 switchable maps..... Worth checking......
Otherwise the cam timing might be out....
-
When you say dealer, do you mean service at a VW main agent?
-
Yeah it was at my local VW dealership, been using them for 3 years with no troubles...
-
Check the timing belt, they might have put it on a tooth out
-
Does that mean taking it to a garage?
-
Do you have VCDS? You can check with that... If not, yes it will be a trip to a garage
-
I only have the Carista app
-
Find someone with vcds. There's a post on here or get on the Facebook page 'vcds users uk'

Took it back to the dealer where I had the work done, sure enough it was one tooth out, gave me a very nice 7R to 'play with' for the day, while they did the work for free for me. Not too bad in the end, she now feels as good as she did...Not quite as fast as the R though...Maybe a K04 is needed

Good customer service! :drinking:
Think about the K04. Should have some coming up for sale when people buy TTE420 or TTE480.

Other than a VW main agent miss-timed the engine! :surprised:
Can't find an emoji for Pathetic!
When you say they did the work for free - do you mean gave you a refund?
-
Even the best can fail (hopefully just very rarely) but it's good that they recognized the mistake and corrected the best they could, without too much hassle for the damaged customer. Of course they weren't supposed to charge for repairing something that they did wrong in the 1st place. But the good will showed when they offered a good replacement car, and not some 1.2 Polo or something like it.
If a big mistake was to happen again in a future job, I'd consider changing to a different dealer/mechanic. I can forgive the odd mistake, not the systematic.

They didn't refund, but it was still a good gesture for me, and after using them for almost 4 years now and this is the first mistake, I am more than a happy customer, hopefully next time she's in for a service they'll give me another R instead of an UP!
