Just got a call from my missus saying the MK5 gti has a flat battery, last use was on Monday, not sure on the age of the battery, but car doesn't do a lot of miles at all.
Oh & I have a Dynavin N6 installed so I really hope it's not battery drain.
Any tips?
Thanks!!

Could be battery drain. What year is your car?
-
I had this recently. Put down to the age of the battery, but it caused me steering assist problems when new battery was fitted. Have a look at my "Hello and Help" post. Good luck.
-
It's a 56 plate, had the Dynavin for about 5-6 months iir.

Could well be the original Factory Fit Varta Battery!
They last around 8 Years or there abouts depending on useage, My car had covered 41K when I replaced mine just as a matter of course.
I can recommend the 096 Varta Silver E44, 780 CCA, 77AH Battery for the MK5 GTI, It has much better specs than the original Factory Fitted item and is the same dimensions so fits straight on :happy2:

As BL says...
My Ed hesitated the first cold morning this season. On original battery in 2008 car...
Have now fitted the top recommended Varta E44, a bargain no-brainer £58 from Battery megastore Tewkesbury M5

Would euro car parts have that battery? Only that I'll Need one asap

That looks like mine, which was the 8 yo original
-
That's defo the original battery mate same as mine, I'm gonna buy me a varta e44 before winter kicks in

ECP/CP4L dont sell Varta.
I have spent a little time trying to fathom out the Varta date code system, but none the wiser so far...
I would recommend taking just a little moretime, to remove the battery box and tray completely, so that you can clean all the crud away that was collected underneath, if yours is like mine. Also washed down to neutralise any stray acid.
Easy 3 x 10mm bolts.
I then waxoyled that area just in case...

Here's the uprated Varta 77AH battery for £55:

I bought and fitted this a few weeks ago, replacing my 8 year old OEM battery and it's working a treat
-
I've still got the original battery on my gti and mines a 56 plate. just starting to struggle to start in the mornings now although only used on a weekend. will be a purchase soon before it gets too cold
-
I'd recommend uprated Varta as above or similar Bosch which I went for. 11 years on original battery is pretty good going!
-
I know I was very surprised when my garage said it was the original battery although they did test it and only has something like 45% left I think they said? so won't be long before I purchase another one. will have a look at those batterys now :)

Judging by the picture, my 06 plate has the original battery too :P
-
sweet! standard batteries couldn't have been too bad then lasting 11 years!
-
Yes, amazed at durability of original batteries!
Have re-checked my old one (all six sides), and can find nothing to bottom-out it's dom.
Not marked as per Varta site...any one here have the know-how?
Eddy has been parked for 2 weeks, and went first oull on a frosty morning. Niggle resolved. Happy!
-
Just fitted mine, I rushed in so I bought the one I linked previously, arrived yesterday morning, so great service from them. works a treat :happy2:! Yes I agree 10 years on my 56 plate battery was pretty good going!
-
Still on my original too :happy2:
-
Just an update from mine: My starting issue was actually the PCV valve not sealing up properly, but felt like the car was turning over unnecessarily slowly from a low battery
-
Sorry to drag this back up. @Bigjimknickers (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=14654) how are you getting on with the Dynavin head unit? I'm thinking of getting one just after xmas.
-
@m4tty (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=17452) personally I wouldn't bother, I'm currently selling my Mk5 & im not even going to remove the dynavin N6 on trade in, if I was to do it again I'd buy a kenwood.
Maybe I'm being too harsh, I mean, but now have Bluetooth hands free, iPod connectivity, BT audio streaming, & sat nav, it's just the sat nav isn't very good really (just the maps) but everything else works very well.
I paid a lot less than £550 that was on the receipt, if I had paid that I wouldn't of been very pleased.
