Hi Guys,
I just picked up this 56 plate GTI. I am just going to post a photo initially and see if you guys see what is potentially quite worrying to me.

Looks the same as my black GTI from the back
-
With an open question like that, you run the risk of people point things out you hadn't noticed :signLOL:
Looks maybe like the right hand rear wheel arch/bumper cuts in a bit? Could just be camera angle.
-
Offside wheel sticking out 15mm more than nearside? Although the photo probably wasn't taken exactly centrally.
Dunno....???

Beat me to it!
-
Looks like mine, even down to the bottom of the black bumper trim being a tiny bit wonky.
I reversed over my car washing bucket :rolleye: :signLOL:
-
serious paint fading going on there Have you considered a complete respray. Pretty sure the GTI badge is 7mm too low

This one takes the cake, I made sure I took the photo directly in the centre from behind. It is really quite a lot further out. It is around 20mm further out, any ideas what this could be? Has the car had a knock and the body work is off (doesn't look it to me) or is the axel/ wheel out of alignment somehow?
-
Looks like someone with a green plastic bag over their head is sat in your driver's seat....and you have left your front door open????
Dunno...i give in....
-
Ha!! You beat me to to it. I was gonna say there was a giant green and orange leprechaun growing out of your drivers side headrest :rolleye:
-
The inner and outer lights aren't level :signLOL:
And apart from it being a golf
-
Brake disks look a bit rusty to me
-
It's easy... Can't you tell????

Camber looks very off on one wheel. Has it got adjustable arms? Get it to a garage.
-
Could be a non-OEM replica wheel on the side that's sticking out?
Get it to a garage

Have you taken the wheel off yet? Might somehow be a wheel spacer left on.....
-
The photo hasnt been taken dead on from the back because you can see the right wing mirror but not the left.
Its just wheel alignment anyway, nothing to worry about probably.
-
Take more pics as one from the rear isn't 100% clear due to being slightly off.
-
What does the car sound & feel like? Anything amiss?
-
MOT history shows a recent fail for two broken coil springs !!!
I'd get those checked out to see if replaced properly :happy2:
-
try and take a photo of the wheel where it meets the hub, youll soon see if theres a spacer there :happy2:

We need the ops input?. @KTR (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=16697)

Yeah you read my mind. Been a lot of questions posted by new users recently - duly answered - that aren't followed up with any sort of acknowledgement or reply from the OP. I'll give him/her the benefit of the doubt and assume they've been busy getting wheel alignment done or something...

Sorry guys I have been working all day. Appreciate the feedback! I will check the spacer suggestion, and have booked the car in for an alignment on Saturday. Never get any time in the week.

From what I can hear I think the bearing on the back left sounds worn, drives absolutely fine. Car doesn't pull in one direction at all.

Will do!

Welcome back
This might not apply here, and there still might be an issue, but it's not uncommon for the rear end to be a bit off from one side to the other without there being an actual problem behind it. It happened loads on the old mk4 platform; one rear wheel poking 10mm more than the other, 15mm discrepancy in ride height etc. Some cars just didn't sit properly whatever you tried.
I haven't seen or heard much of the same with the mk5, which stands to reason as it's a completely different (and loads better) rear suspension setup. But I've read about one car on a US forum like this.
Hopefully though after a quick check there will be an obvious reason that can be sorted. Let's hope everything is as straight as it should be.

Thank you for the knowledgeable input. I very much hope mine is not the one in a million! And that if its not then the fix needed isn't huge!
-
Fingers crossed. Let us know how you get on.

it makes perfect sense to follow up or even reply to the answers provided which some don't do but as you said AJP give them the benefit of the doubt
-
So it was the wheel that looks off. trailing arm bushes worn.
-
Maybe its just me or the camera angle but this car at the rear looks very similar. It also mentions in the description "rear subframe refurbishment. Any thoughts?

Have you actually measured a difference on your car? or is all this based on what it looks like from a photo graph?
Probably best to establish if this is real.....or not....
