Title: Unknown map back to stock?
Post by: Sheeny94 on October 25, 2016, 04:27:42 pm
Hi there,
When I bought my golf GTi it had already been remapped by a previous owner
I want to return the map to standard but have no idea who mapped the car in the first place
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Just go to any known mapping place and they should have a stock file on their computer to upload.

If it's a Revo map, the mapping place will need a Revo dongle lead thingy and appropriate software.

I think you can tell who mapped it on the VCDS engine module screen.  Some times the mapping company change the "VW AG" text in the label file to their own name.

It's in a field called "# Shop".  Sometimes you will see "Revo" or some brand name in there, otherwise it's just WSC and some numbers.

Where would I access this on vcds?

My mate said he's never heard of a way to check who mapped it via vcds. And he's been using it for years.

It's possible but only if they alter a certain part of the flash that contains the text data that VCDS displays. I'd say its pretty rare for a tuner to do this personally, it's normally labelled within the flash though which can be seen with appropriate viewing software

Any decent tuning company will flash it back to stock for you

"Shop #" is an editable field, and I've seen tuners put their name there before.  That was on older ECUs though.  Not sure about the newer stuff.
