Hi guys may need a Power Steering rack although it's not knackered and just knocks when turning steering left to right quickly when stationery and sound like inner rods?.
PN would be great and are there revised racks?.
Thanks

This may be it: http://www.vwpartscenter.net/oe-volkswagen/1k1423055mx
Your VIN and/or manufactured date will determine the correct one though...as there are changes in mid '08. PN followed by EX, rather than MX, is for pre July '08. Also...PN's will likely vary for RH drive as those I listed are for LH drive and unsure if it differs for you.
Might be helpful to give a call to the dealer, give them your VIN, and ask for the part number for the Steering Rack.
Love the pic in your sig...power tool at the ready! :happy2:

For what I've found on ETKA there's a change from Generation 2 to Generation 3 like @ROH ECHT (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=3794) said, but the PN for the gear assembly is the same: 1K1 423 055 M.
I can't really tell the difference between them just looking at the PN listed...

thanks for that @ROH ECHT (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=3794) I'm going for a used one TBH as I want to save every little I can and may just call the dealers up who aren't very helpfully as I've tried to get prices for parts but the twat who served me didn't even call back even after leaving a message. That torque wrench is owned by the guy who was fitting my new alloys on :ashamed:

im sure they'd be the same they're still gti unless they were stupid enough to change the parts them selves.

Likely that all will work and there are just newer revisions for whatever reason...but fitment may be the same. I just found there are different letters at the end depending on production date...so not 100% certain about fitment without the VIN. You still may have luck if you find a friendly, happy with their job, sort. I can give your VIN a try here with my parts people...pm it to me if you like.

I put a new gen 3 rack on mine, you need to buy a different wiring loom from the dealers for the gen 3 racks mate

Thats very kind of you @ROH ECHT (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=3794) I'll let you know :happy2:

Here in the uk we have 1k2 423 051 AQ gti
1k2 423 051 CA is Pirelli edition but I'm sure it wouldn't matter as a rack is a rack lol
-
Bought it from www.acspowersteering.co.uk think it was about £450 brand new genuine rack tho. They do both gen 2 and gen 3 racks the gen 2 ones are refurbs as they don't make them anymore and gen 3 are brand new. Not to bad to fit took me about a hour. Part no off my old one is 1K2 423 051 BA if that helps.

See again that's a totally different PN to the ones I've seen on eBay so still uncertain as there are variations to these stupid racks although it was never an issue in the past swooping parts over. There's one for £50 off a gti but I'll phone email a few sellers to get their responses to this PN stuff.

Just a quick fyi to you, if you find a rack that you don't know is from a gti you'll probably have to get VW to load the steering curve for your car ie gti, R32 etc as the sportier the car the stiffer the steering needs to be, it's actually many different scenarios but say it's from a 1.6 golf it will have a totally different set of figures in which will defo need to be reprogrammed via vw, which is all perfectly normal, including any referbed units you may go for, so just bear that in mind, also as mentioned previously gen 3 units need a newer loom from dealer costing at least 100 quid, plus gen 3 only fits on with 3 fixings gen 2 with 4 fixings.

Nice one @SI-R32 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1757) so bearing that in mind that if it's from a gti I should be fine?.
I fitted a brand new rack to an A1 tsi at work and everything was okay or was it meant to also go to be for this steering curve?.
Thanks

The steering curve need doing at Vw on the gen 3 racks the gen 2 are adjustable with vcds, Iv not bothered getting mine done as they wanted like £140

does the car drive any different to how it should? Or does it not matter to much?.
-
It's only adjustable on very early golf's gen 2 on late golf's cannot be done via vcds mate.
Regardless of price you should have it done, very stupid not to have car how it come from factory for the sake of 140 quid

@SI-R32 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1757)
You know what it'll probably cost £140 + vat from my local twat stealers but I'll get it done as getting paid out from insurance so why not get it done properly :happy2:
Thanks
-
To be honest it doesn't feel any different that's why I cant justify £140 getting it done
-
I'm going to do it for piece of mind as I want mine as it was pre accident.
