Hi guys, it's been a crap day I took my Golf GTI down the strip at Crail Raceway today and during the run I went from a flat out 3rd gear into 2nd gear accidentally :scared:
I don't think I even let the Clutch fully out, so I thought I caught it quick enough. Guess not as now it's making a tapping / ticking sound, sort of like the injector sound but louder. It doesn't go away only speeds up with RPM.
What possible damage do you think has been done?
Piston damage, bent valves, lifters, cylinder head??
Cheers

If you bent valves I'd say your car would misfire as I've had bent valves on a previously owned car and with would run fine unti the plug got soaked then I'd take it out clean up and start the whole process again :signLOL:
Check your cam follower firstly and then the timing chain tensioner.
You cam check the chain on vcds but someone needs to tell you what specs it's meant to be at :happy2:

I'll have a look at them, all of it was changed about 4k ago all genuine parts aswell, maybe the stress of it stretched the cam chain and now it's really loud, I'll double check tomorrow. Certain it's a Valve unfortunately as it sounds like it's a metal clunk echoing up the intake manifold, that is making it sound even louder

That's bad and sorry to hear that mate. Probably the cam tensioner or chain so get that checked as soon as possible. Good luck and let us know how you get on?.

Yeah will do man and it's gonna be bad just checked the over rev code with VCDS, and I defo didn't catch it in time. 8703RPM @ 80.1mph in 2nd gear!!!

Ouch!!!
You've got over rev limit mapped in too.
