57 plate just shy of 100,000 miles.
Just had to perform a short term repair to input of backbox for mot using gun gum and wrap.
This isn't going to last!
What are my replacement options beyond the usual stainless bcs or milltek that represent a large % of the cars actual value.
Can you still get an OE exhaust from vw parts?
Been warned off ECP options as they are poor quality.
Second hand milltek items do pop up now and again.
Second hand oe on ebay just seem a waste of time as they are the same age as what I've got.
Given its been on nearly 10yr s I'm not sure it will come off in any sort of replaceable state so probably need full item turbo back.
Thanks john

Could go to a custom exhaust place and tell you what you want regarding sound etc. A lot cheaper than people think too if you find the right garage.
A mate of mine had a custom turbo back for about 450ish.

I would be interested to know this also.
My aim is to keep the ED30 stock and that would include the exhaust when it eventually needs replacing.
Does anyone know who makes the OE exhaust?
I wonder if the like of BCS would make a non performance OE replacement?

OEM system still going strong on mine at 105K.
Leistritz used to make the OEM exhausts for VW, not sure if they still do.
If you want to keep it OEM, then replace the relevant silencer with another OEM part is my advice. End to end, it's hideously expensive unfortunately. Last time I enquired, it was about £450 for the rear silencer, £350ish for the middle silencer, plus another £600-700 odd for the downpipe/cats.
How bits of pipe could ever cost £1000s is a mystery to me, but it's the world we live in unfortunately.

It would be good to know what you eventually op for so keep us up to date and yes how mass produced pieces of pipe can cost £1000's is beyond me too.

The stealers wanted just under £900 for the catalytic convertor, I said forget it - other parts were rustier than the Titanic as well... Paid the extra and had a BCS Prestige System, 200 cell sport cat, wrapped downpipe ect...
Worth every penny, sounds fantastic, excellent build quality as well :happy2:

Thanks for the update , glad your sortied :happy2:

I had a standard system in mine til about 120k and it started to blow so replaced with a milltek non res cat back and put a used OE down pipe and did a precat delete. Dosnt sound too much louder than stock and not boy racerish. Has a nice note to it

Whatever you have decided john_o, be aware of promised BCS group buy soon, plus black friday also due v soon, 25th?
I had my 3" full Miltek on a black friday deal a while back (ed at about 110k by then, but OE exhuast had survived, so stored for sale time!)
Saved £100's.....

PM Me for Black Friday deal details...

I've never understood this either??? The price of metal compared to what they are actually selling is ridiculous, even taking into account the welding!

I think it comes under the banner of "You NEED it, therefore we will charge the earth for it", like engine oil, brake pads etc etc. They all cost way more than they ought to, and the difference between the various makes & models is minimal to say the least.
-
To be fair, the prices of Milltek/BCS etc don't look too bad when up against OEM....
and I would bet that VW won't do you a group buy/black friday discount!

I can't see a Milltek lasting 10 years / 100K+ miles though. Thin walled pipe and cheapy welds don't tend to last well.

stainless???
-
Always had good experiences with Milltek on other cars, never struck me as feeling particularly cheap. That's been in comparison to mainly Japanese brands though which tend to be pretty flimsy!

stainless???
There's stainless, and there's stainless
I had a Milltek on my old Corrado and the welds broke off in the key areas, the flexis were low quality and the pipes went brown and rusty within 2 years. Not rust as in flakey mild steel rust, but it's just a low quality, thin walled stainless which is pretty cheap wholesale.....but they charge the public a fortune for it.
After that I imported a Borla stainless system from America and the quality difference was stark to say the least!

How much is a miltek for the Golf mk5 anyway?

Complete waste of time swapping, unless you have a rubbish current options spec or unhappy with it.
