Title: Anyone test rear view cameras?
Post by: SiofChester on November 06, 2016, 01:32:53 pm
Bought a MK 6 rear view camera off a lad on here but can't get it to work. I've bought a loom converter but it still won't work, even when I try wiring it manually to a 12v source to replicate going into reverse.

Rather than jump to the conclusion that I've been stiffed by a member on here, does anyone test these things that could give me a hint if it's the unit or my installation skills...

I put the loom between the existing wiring to the old latch and then did (from memory) 2x 12v connections to a 12v dc transformer and a ground. Was expecting the camera to pop open or move when I put 12v to the "reverse light wire"

To be fair, the only thing I didn't do, is run the wiring to the head unit

I would just fit it to the car straight without using a dc transformer.

I tried that with a spare battery I had but nothing, hence me thinking the unit was faulty. It was brand new though, so it's likely to be me

One final thing I noticed was that eve with 12v hard wired to the unit, when I pulled the latch up, it didn't make any noise, not even the boot lock actuator, which it does with the MK 5 latch
