So a couple of weeks ago I went looking at a few edition 30's.
Finally found one that was higher mileage than I'd have liked but was perfect body wise and had full VWSH so I went up and a deal was done.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161106%2F3524a5dec46705c9eb4aecc9141610a6.jpg&hash=308a4264cbbff23baa72ffd244ff1b84d9b1c649)
It's 102k, full VWSH and immaculate body wise except for 1 scratch on the driver's door. No dents or marks anywhere.
So the car has an R Tech sticker on the boot and it was certainly faster than others I'd test drove. I messaged them with the plate but they have no record of it, however I believe it's been on a private plate before.
What I did do was hook up my bluetooth ODB2 reader to the android head unit and use torque.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161106%2Fb99c40cbeb69b007217ef245eaa8b997.jpg&hash=34f07cf74e83f8eddb9a504dbf237ae4596fda90)
Making peak boost of 19.4 there but it didnt hold there and dropped off to 14psi very quickly. The initial surge is definitely there.
So I got about doing the usual suspects to check and ordered the newer PCV a cam follower and the GFB DV+ to see if that was the cause.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161106%2F2affa8734ef0ab58d7c2a8521aabd7e5.jpg&hash=795f174407a404d15977d80ddde78e8f57e1bb6f)
Old PCV was minging!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161106%2Fbe87c8d42f40b46fd6275c413bc6792c.jpg&hash=ee706d137628ad5ec9b0ead63fb2a36ad4a13240)
Cam follower wasn't too bad.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161106%2F707d66c766a60cff9bf2dfd946167d08.jpg&hash=4be0a0942bec6b52ea317f485ba48e680b768010)
However no real improvement other than I now hit a peak boost of 21-22psi.
Where are the other places to look for boost leaks, common areas?
Car has also had so far 4 new Pilot Sport 4's to replace the crappy budgets and the obligatory GTi seat inserts.
Also does anyone know the car? It was owner by someone called Matt Parker at some point as that's the Gmail account that was linked to the head unit when I got the car. I tried emailing him but got no response.
I'd love to know if it was on here before, previous to me it was with a "trader". This is the car that had these pictures in the ad with this plate on but I think that's not a plate that's been on the car, just on the "trader" uses when advertising
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161106%2F65561f00f69d040b35d90de262212b54.jpg&hash=12ef4705d9fb048025beb84b75d2aab178827212)

Looks lovely!
-
Thanks. For anyone that's interested here is what it replaced.

I've had 4 Clio's, 2 Renault Sports (172 followed by the above 197) and I'll definitely miss them. But this is a much better all rounder.
-
Nice purchase and welcome to the forum
-
Thanks people.
I really want to know if this is mapped or not so I can work out my next steps. Does anyone know of this car? It doesn't have a plate on it so that's something I'll look at doing, but surely someone should recognize it from the for sale ads?
So boost leak areas to investigate? Also getting the following fault codes:
P0010 - Powertrain: "A" Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 1)
P0441 - Powertrain: Evaporative Emmission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow
I believe P0441 is to do with the carbon canister and the hoses around there/N85 Valve so I'll look at that one.
P0010 though I've swapped the camshaft position sensor out already but it's still coming up. Any ideas?
-
Wow. Really quiet on here.

Hi,
its definitely been mapped a stock boost is about 10-12psi.
as for boost leaks, Id check the intercooler pipes ase the silly bayonet couplers arent the greatest.
-
But it peaks for a second and drops that low. From what I've seen it should hold much higher than 14psi.
-
Nice spec eddy. 102k is nothing as long as it's well maintained. Mines hit 107k and feels the same as when i bought it with 60k.
-
Nice one mate! :happy2:
10000 pounds of mods and it will handle like a Clio. :signLOL:

Aha!
It'll never live up to the Clio round the bends, not in terms of feel on the road anyway.
This however is a much better all round package. The way it covers ground with ease is astonishing. From 30mph to about 80mph goes by so quick it's untrue.
It's comfy, it's quiet and it just eats up miles. It's an odd engine as it feels like a much bigger engine is under the bonnet in terms of how it drives.
There's more interior rattles than I'd have expected from a VW but it seems common, the seats are amazingly comfy and going for a DSG model was definitely the best option, it suits the engine and car perfectly.
-
For sure is one of the best all-rounders for the money, K04 tfsi sometimes makes you feel like crousing in a grand tourer.
-
Smart looking motor that! id change that cam follower if i was you though. looks like the coating has worn off.for the sake of 30 or so quid i'd get it changed for peice of mind

its comments like this which is why I have no money.

I did change it, that's why it's in there lol. I did it didn't look bad but further up I'd said I changed it anyway

I got rid of the P0441 by not doing full tank refuels. Just do the "full" refuel without 5-7 litres. I saw people changing their fuel tanks and even after that the P0441 still reappeared from time to time.
-
haha nice one!
-
great looking car.. really think xenons make these cars
-
The xenon's make them look loads tidier on the front end. Much prefer them.
Think I'm going to look for an RNS510 soon. Miss having handsfree and the Bluetooth on this thing is patchy as f*ck. My phone constantly pairs and unpairs every few seconds.
-
Apologies if it doesn't make sense in places but this is copied from another forum.
So my private plate could go on today so stuck that on when I got home after an early finish.

Just took it up to Drury Lane to get the alignment done as it's been out since I got it. Haven't finished yet but they've just let me underneath to give it a quick look over.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161116%2F465694ca15c996ffbd39427a9012ef8c.jpg&hash=98a0f1d09b3fef4c087b4ef65d3e9a18e54ec689)
First up, through the front under tray you can see the IC hose is not sealed properly, so that's going to need sorting this weekend.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161116%2F9b7042fce18325f9859e12ee61ed0367.jpg&hash=12a59b3c9534ab51df65ad96955f64ddd388990a)
Next there has been a slight blow in the exhaust too so had a nosey at that.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161116%2Fbd50f7a8f5ca92a246a780779fdf854e.jpg&hash=ae7dd7d85b39c3737d816035df710a39dbcc47fd)
That's just soot btw not a hole.
Underneath is very clean actually. Was very impressed with it, even the jacking points are spot on
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161116%2F0a610fc64c963a8c2bc5e6ce045d5145.jpg&hash=571f3df8a94f9b6e1b86675b27810fcce49c0612)
Gives me a few things to look at this weekend anyway!

Before and after of the alignment
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161116%2Fa948450b147126df63403597f7638851.jpg&hash=184a916424a67f3b404d1cead6113a8554936208)
Rear right was really seized and that's as close as they could get it realistically.
Also got home to find these have turned up.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161116%2F2894335a5b793c085c5631f79fd75cc2.jpg&hash=b95a9b9cafc1d5c2f5a88a2a1c064dee3e0f2f3e)
Look forward to getting the sh*tty carbon ones off!
-
So the weather is wet and cold so didn't fancy getting under the car today.
I did however get my OSIR paddles fitted.
Pretty straight forward. First up obviously disconnect the battery.
Turn the wheel 90 degrees and unclip one side of the airbag, then 180 degrees the other way and do the other side.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161119%2Fbafac5ef047e8df4ca12c7ba7d387266.jpg&hash=4b4b6d1d6a06191066eb15eca29ce4c7d7e363da)
Unscrew the blanks and disconnect the paddle from the housing for the blanks or MFSW buttons (which I'll hopefully have a set of soon)
Then there's one more screw holding the paddle assembly in and then off they come threading the cable through the small hole in the wheel.
I then took the paddle extensions off the originals. Looks like silicone was used here.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161119%2Fe539d4057a82894e916f7e12c723c4da.jpg&hash=322b0e7f676662fe6017abd4bc8f8d7408a841ef)
Then slide the pin on the hinge out by lifting the tab in the middle and using a small screwdriver to push the pin out so you can separate the paddle from the unit.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161119%2F99e4c5f8bfb2dee17e300403427349d8.jpg&hash=06cc30d2c0539d956d4fe4024056c8b347e6ba59)
Remove the spring as you place that into the new paddle.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161119%2F98a0a0ac2797e20a9f6185f8f5ad9d31.jpg&hash=7c78b37307a4cd793fd0fe8999cde7d5dab46179)
Then put the parts back together with the pin
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161119%2F3ad5a74f4a3523ea2ed6cf0ec9284e4f.jpg&hash=3f1ac53ca6fe249e5a38ed33d69f0c89d0f482cb)
Back into the steering wheel and reassemble.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161119%2Fb9e6441d84217945a12ab1cc55e5664a.jpg&hash=3a45491621d8671c4e2430a7171fc7a00ed11d00)

Miles better.
Quick comparison of the standard paddle vs the paddle extensions for anyone who wants to take that route.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20161119%2F69862257e76a842429ea5e5c74dc829a.jpg&hash=b2b868b461d5495fc4e3f4f8dd42db8e870f2499)
Far too big for my liking as they sit too close to the wheel. Bigger ones usually sit further away so not to interfere with your hands when driving.
Very happy with the new ones though. Feel really premium.
-
Love the OSIR paddles but I couldn't justify spending that much on them. Maybe one day when I win the lottery!

Got them on eBay for £80 from someone on here who had them up for £90.
Love a bargain

Best I could do is find the trader's ad again. He uses that plate for various cars he sells (though he says "my car" in all of his ads and they're relatively spaced out, so could have actually been owning them...)
https://www.google.co.uk/#safe=off&q=mk5+golf+gti+schmidt_vr6 (https://www.google.co.uk/#safe=off&q=mk5+golf+gti+schmidt_vr6)
He's on here too, but no mention of the ed30 you've bought it seems. I can't find any posts about the car with the original plate.
Did you do a vehicle lookup before you bought the car? Most supply records of plate transfers.

Yeah he's deffo a trader as the logbook wasn't in his name and the traders section was missing.
I also couldn't put my private plate on using the online form as it was previously owned by a trader.
I'll keep digging! Cheers.
