Title: OEM locking wheel bolts
Post by: pudding on November 10, 2016, 04:50:39 pm
You know the standard locking bolts, with the key in the boot tray thing?  Can you still get those from VW?  As in a new set of 4 with a key?

One of mine is screwed and I don't really like those McGard things.  Would rather stick to OEM.  Believe it or not, a few years ago a mate and I bought a set of McGards each (from the same shop) and our keys fitted each other's bolts!!   That's why I avoid them

If you still have your standard locking key, there will be a letter on it.
Look out on eBay for a set with the same key.
You'll then be able to keep the good ones of your current set plus a spare locking key ;)

Cheers guys.  Turns out VW keep them on the shelf    They must get a lot of people losing their keys!

Anyone any ideas if they still sell them (i.e a full set) or is it better to go elsewhere?

Turns out the bolts VW stock are the McGard style ones, but made by 'SportRader', but they look and feel a lot better made than McGards.   They also come with the OEM round bolt covers too, which is a nice touch!

The nice compact ones the car came from the factory with, are sadly gone forever  :sad1:
