Hello all. Could anyone help me understand the significance of the blue emblem 'R' on my GTI R Mk 5?

I think a previous owner may have just stuck that on of a MK6 or MK7 R.

Maybe a previous owner glued the R-Line symbol. My GT Sport R-Line came with 1 on each front wing from factory.
