Hi,
Sorry to open another thread on tyres but it seems this has not been covered as the Pilot 4 are new(ish). I am looking to buy 4 new tyres as my old Avons have cracks in the tread. After much research it seems only XL is available in Pilot 4. So which do I go for?
225/45 R 17 94 W XL - Pilot Sport 4
Or
225/45 R 17 91 V - Pilot Sport 3
Thoughts??

PS4.
PS3 were a replacement for the PE2 which was more of a touring tyre rather than sporty. The PS2 was meant to stop production when the PS3 came out but because it wasn't a replacement for it they kept it. PS4 is the real PS2 replacement and is so much better than the PS3 that I wouldn't even look at them
Also you'll want xl in them all because of the weight of the car. No one wants soft sidewalls

This ^ :happy2:
In my own experience, too.

Agree with all the above. I've got a pair of PS4 to replace my worn Super Sports (which seem to have jumped up in price since I last bought some).
And if anyone missed the thread, the imminent replacement for the Super Sport (aka PSS) is the PS4S.

i replaced a worn set of PS3's with PS4's the 4's definatly are better. and theyre actually cheaper :happy2:

Michelin really need to sort out their naming conventions of their products!

Thank you. I will go with the PS4 XL. I was just worried that without the extra weight it may not sit right. :happy2:

There's the the Pilot Sport 4, and the Pilot Sport 4S (succeeding the Pilot Sport 3 and the Pilot Super Sport).
Can't get much simpler :signLOL: :P

PS4.
For those who are bothered by life span (I'm not), I've chewed half the tread off my front PS4s in approx. 5000miles. Although that is 90% down to my less than graceful driving to be fair

Erm.. yes. Same here. 18 months and about 10k have just about seen off a pair of PSS for me. Rears still have about 6mm left.

Nothing wrong with Michelin PS3's, Had a few sets on various cars now and always been happy with them.
-
Had 18k out of a set of ps3's on the wife's Leon, rears have past 20k with 4mm left. Walls have just started cracking so will be getting changed shortly.

Seems to be the case with a lot of Pilot Sports, I know over time they can experience cracking & the marbling effect that Rich @rich83 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=709) posted pics of on his Pilot Super Sports... I've had it on my PS2's and PSS too.
Dunno what it means in real terms but seems to not affect too much when pushing on.
