Hi All,
My GTI (BWA) has now reached over 120k miles, I can't recall if the cambelt and water pump have ever been changed, so I need to get this done ASAP. :jumping:
I was hoping the wise folks on the forum could advise what else should get replaced/checked at the same time as this job? (Cambelt, Water pump and Coolant (G13 now??))
I have read about cam chains and adjusters, not really sure what they are in all honesty!
Looking to get this booked in today/tomorrow following your wise words.
Thanks

Just seen this by chance, if I remember right that car had the belt done just before I bought it, so it's only 3-years old max. Glad to hear it's still going well :happy2:

Cam chain and adjuster/tensioner is the other side of the engine and a totally separate repair.
Nothing really in that region so just get them done. Maybe consider the thermostat if your car takes an age to hit 90 on the gauge or doesn't stay there once you've reached it, but that's about it

Hi Julian - oh really, I'll double check the paper work thanks - the quote I have is £449 for whole job, so would be nice if I could delay a little longer!! The car still drives nicely, I am hoping to keep it for a quite some time (already been over two years now!!) - it will be difficult to upgrade/replace.
Ok thanks Dan, I'll just stick to the cambelt and water pump then, pending a review of the paper work.

I would probs get drive belt done aswell but supply it your self shouldn't cost u any more in labour as they need to take the old one of to do cam belt any way (I think)

Drive belt (auxiliary belt) for sure it's only £25 for a genuine one. If you've any thermostat symptoms it's definitely worth doing. Did mine recently and it's a great improvement for the heat on these cold mornings :happy2:
