Hi all
Just wondered if those of you that have changed your cam chain - what mileage did you get it done and what engine code?
My cars hit 127k and although I can't hear anything yet..I'm contemplating getting it done just for peace of mind.
As usual thoughts/opinions welcome :happy2:

High 90s. 97-98 I think
-
I did mine just b4 60K but mine is a TSI engine and they tensioners are as strong as a paperclip until you change for the revised version
-
If I had the TSI I'd want it done as soon as I bought it for that very reason.
If your car doesn't sound like a diesel once warmed up then it's pointless changing it on the EA113 TFSI engine.

I guess you've heard the stories then lol
Done for piece of mind

Mines a TFSI AXX and I'm just thinking of doing it for peace of mind.
It's at the mechanics at the moment anyway told him to have a listen and see what he thinks. It's just at 127k my mind has started wondering if i should do it so it dosnt snap randomly

If it isn't noisy then the tensioner is doing its job. It's unlikely to snap so long as the oil pressure is good. Get the pickup pipe in the sump done if you haven't already as oil starvation is much more likely to cause issues. Not to mention the number of times I've seen the cam chain done and it be put back together with the timing out, meaning the whole job needs doing again.

Had chain/tensioner done a couple months back with my car only on 29k!
100% had the diesel sound when warm and it was cured by doing this work. So for me I guess it was bad luck or perhaps more a function of time (car is 10 years old now and I expect to change thigs due to thier age) rather than distance. For piece of mind though, and the fact it did actually make a difference, im glad I did it!
Engine is BWA.
As some other have said. If you havent got any of the symptoms, why bother? if it aint broke... (or rather; if it aint rattlin'...) :signLOL:

Did mine in the 90s too because of the afore mentioned diesel clattering when warm.
Tbh, I would get bored of an engine that lasted forever and never went wrong
