Title: New York Hotels
Post by: Matto on November 28, 2016, 05:45:09 pm
Evening all. I'm looking for recommendations for a hotel in New York please. We have just paid the deposit on the holiday and was looking though the hotels we will be staying during our trip. For New York we have been booked in to the Hudson but after reading reviews about tiny rooms etc I think I want to find somewhere else.

Needs to be a good location (This will be our first visit)
Decent size room as we are there for 3 nights
Don't want to be paying through the nose

So if anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated  :happy2:

I haven't been since 2008, but stayed in The New Yorker next to Penn Station. Decent rates but although Art Deco era, I saw it as somewhere basic with decent nearby restaurants and breakfast places. However, it is fairly central, good rates and somewhere to kip - ideal if you want somewhere to act as a base.
You see it all the time on the news, in the background of interviews.

First time we stayed at the Waldorf Astoria. Nice hotel and comfy rooms (if a little dated), possibly the comfiest bed I have slept on ever, the lobby is incredible..... it was an experience. Breakfast is about 450 dollars  :signLOL: . Just north of Grand Central station on park avenue.

Second time, Marriot Courtyard Manhattan/Central Park. Great location and modern rooms. We were on the 19th floor with decent views of the Manhattan skyline.

Just to wet your appetite....

We stayed in the Robert Treat hotel in Newark when we last visited. Saving was substantial even factoring in the cost of catching the train to Gran Central.

Waldorf is an experience as already stated ,do a fantastic free tour inside also.
Can highly recommend that and the Affinia Dumont who do rooms with kitchenette type arrangements enabling full use of great deli food and sorting your own breakfast

Went in 2008 and stayed in Trump Tower.  Got a good deal on a British Airways 3 night deal inc Hotel.  As said previously, super comfy and huge beds in the posher places.  Not your usual euro style 2 single beds pushed together!

With the hotels around Central Park, the price increases massively the higher up the floors you go.  And restaurants around the Trump end can be bloody pricey.

Great city, you will love it.   First port of call is to find an old school diner and pig out on Pancakes with bacon and syrup.  Nowhere does it like the yanks.  Same with the burgers!   Call into Roxys Diner and get a Pastrami sandwich.  Expect to fall into a food coma afterwards and not wake up again until the following day.
