Title: Powerflex Fitting - Nottingham Area
Post by: leebes on November 29, 2016, 07:30:47 pm
Hey All,

I have a full set of powerflex bushes for the front of my Mk5 gti (wishbones, roll bar) including engine mounts, but wondered if any one could recommend somewhere/ someone to fit them in the Nottingham area?

Will be moving to the rear at some point early next year and getting all those bushes replaced as well.

Cheers
Lee

I used Shark Performance in Mansfield to fit my H&R springs and do a DSG service and no complaints

Are C&R Enterprises still in Nottingham?  They were good back in the day.

C&R are still in Notts and going strong by all accounts, but I wont be calling them. Had a couple of quotes from them recently for various things and the prices they want to charge are ridicious! Put me off for good!

You had a lucky escape.

It's one thing quoting steep prices but quite another thing being charged hundreds for them to claim an obvious problem doesn't exist and replace perfectly functioning parts that had nothing to do with the issue.

Never again.

Ive heard bed things about C&R.

Ive never used Alumy but seen some of the stuff they've done.  Tried and tested tuning as they build and run Vw race cars :)

They were good in the early days before the VW scene got all a bit too retail and cut throat.  I liked Steve Creswell's knowledge and attention to detail.  I think he still posts on many VW forums as 'crasher' and he certainly has a ton of knowledge.

I think it all went a bit shat when Steve's partner (the 'R' part of C&R) left or something.  Was 1998 when I was there last, so hard to remember.  At that point they became more sales and mail order focused.   At around that time they also earned a reputation for claiming peoples (perfectly fine) big ends needed replacing.  Their 'professional' diagnosis was telling people their engines sounded 'gruff' when revved.

In my experience, VW big ends never go unless they are starved of oil on a track day or something, but that didn't stop them spouting lies that VW big ends are made of cheese and are known to fail.

I thought that practice would have died off long ago but clearly not, so endorsement swiftly retracted!!

I have no doubt they used to be good and probably still are for all I know and couldnt fault their knowledge, just wasnt keen on the prices i got quoted and the trend of 'well, if your doing that then you might as well do this and this at the same time'. I couldnt really get a word in to say no thats not what I want, then to top it all i had to chase for the quote...which in my book is poor.

But anyway, this wasnt meant to be a good and bad of C&R thread, i know they are there, just wondered if there was any one else...Shark and Alumy aside

Thanks
Lee

Probably a bit too far for you but Stealth Racing are just over an hour from Nottingham.  I've used them since 1999 and can't fault them

They certainly don't sell you stuff you don't need, and they just happened to be in the top tier of VW tuners / mappers in the country
