Kia ora chaps,
As above, just brought this car and it has come from Japan with this exhaust system that to my novice eyes looks like it might be more cosmetic than any thing.
I have included a picture of the downpipe (correct me if I'm wrong) coming off the motor.
Cheers fellas

I know that's the standard downpipe so worth swapping, not sure on the rest apart from I would probably change it aswell....just my personal opinion ;)
-
Thanks for your reply, yep maybe a bit over the top with four pipes but looks different than the hundreds of thousands with the stock pipes.
I like to stand out from the crowd and not look like everyone else.
Why would you change it, just cosmetic reasons? Performance seems better that stock gti's I have driven :driver:

Welcome to the forum mate
I'd say replace the dp as that's standard and keep the rest as it suits the car very well :happy2:

Cheers mate

Car looks sweet mate. As far as the downpipe goes, if you're happy with the performance, leave as is.
-
I think the pipes look great and if you are happy with the performance and noise I wouldn't change a thing.
The wind deflectors on the other hand........
-
Funny you should say that. It's the first thing the wife said about it.
"At least its got wind deflectors"
Watched a video on you tube where the guy was winging about water running off the roof and into your open window and dripping on the window buttons. Don't know if it's a problem or not but I won't have to find out with them on

+1
Don't forget to checkout removing the internals from the pre-cat, well worth doing...a free mod.
Will be interested to know if those wind deflectors actually solve the water into switches. Many others on here have said not.

What does removing the internals do? I tried searching but couldn'tfind any thing

You take the downpipe off the car and smash out this chalky substance from the very top end of the downpipe. Reduces exhaust gas temperatures, produces a slightly deeper note to the exhaust and best of all doesn't fail on MOT.
Alternatively, get a bigger downpipe, which would mean you would have to go stage 2 on a remap as there's more flow than standard downpipe and the sensors won't like it

I also quite like the quad exhaust on the mkv, Red Robin has a quad exhaust with a lovely carbon difffuser iirc? i always like the look of his car because of this! like you say "it looks different than the hundreds of thousands with the stock pipes"
As the car has been imported from Japan you "should" have a rust free car as they dont use salt etc during the winter. Looks very clean from your photo's. My car is also very lucky to have a near mint underneath with no rust what so ever
good luck with the car :happy2:

Look for Pre-CAT delete on the forum.
Exhaust looks neat and well finished, I quite like it :happy2:
-
also, check your car has an alarm.
I worked on a jap import gti once and it didnt have an alarm or the interior sensors

If your considering knocking the internals of the stock downpipe out, you may aswell change the while pipe while you have it off....
3 in downpipe makes a big difference from a bolt on perspective. Car looks nice :happy2:

Pre cat delete as a minimum :innocent:

Cheers fellas, I think I'll give that a go over the Christmas break. Looks fairly straight forward to do.
