Title: Missing Revo
Post by: Tuffy on December 11, 2016, 09:12:30 pm
Evening guys
I was looking through the paperwork of my Edition 30 and found that the first owner bought several performance parts... decided to contact him and ask about the car...
He informed me that he had a Revo map with five different settings which were changeable from a box inside the car.... now somehow on its journey between him a me (4 owner) the hand held controller has gone missing and no paperwork for the Revo map

Has anyone had anything like this happen and what are the chances of Revo wanting to help me out without wanting to charge me to flash the ecu and sell me a complete map??
Btw..... it does pull like a train!!!!

It'll be 3 switchable maps, plus stock map and then anti-theft. The handheld device is a Revo SPS - not vehicle specific but will need setting up to your car. If it pulls like a train then chances are the software is still there and a Revo dealer will be able to set up an SPS for you. You can do this yourself if you have VCDS after a bit of research

If you dont have the software on there, then without the original receipt they'll likely charge you full whack

Thanks Dan.
The guy said it was pushing  330bhp... the maps he quoted were...winter,summer,Ron 95 and Ron 99....and as he quoted ... silly mode. Could it have been accidental flashed?

Also said that the DSG was mapped... in sport it goes right round to the red before changing up!

sport mode does that even on stock dsg map. its actually better to be in manual changing at about 5k i find

330bhp indicates more than a remap - what other performance parts do you have?

Was thinking the same.   My ED30 was also already Revoed when I bought it (and again, no paperwork, no SPS switch....previous owners eh? Tsk) and it put down 280hp, so must have been stage 1.  Still 20hp short of advertised ponies though

To be honest when he owned it he had induction kit etc on it... someone has put it back to stock between him and me owning it.
I'm booked in at my local Revo dealer on Saturday morning (pragmatic in Suffolk) he's going to run vag on it and check the map.... we'll see what's going on then.

Interesting.  I live in Suffolk and I've not heard of Pragmatic?  Been thinking of going Revo again.  Got any more details of this place?

Hmmm.... Not listed as a dealer on Revo's website..... and the address provided is a house out in the sticks.....

It's on a horrible road too.  A man with a laptop and a Revo dongle doesn't bother me so much, but the fact he's not a listed dealer isn't reassuring!

Ok. Went there Saturday morning. Guy was a Revo dealer down south before moving to east anglia but isn't anymore... still has Revo software... plugged in and ran diagnostics... then the Revo check....apparently no Revo codes found... assumed the ecu has been flashed.... can't make much out of it has it does go like a stabbed rat! Is there anyone on here that has inside knowledge of Revo?? Could something have been overlooked??

Revo dealer software would tell you if the ECU software on your car is from Revo. Its possible it has since been mapped elsewhere.

Def was Revo'd guys back in 2009 as I'm chatting to the guy who owned it from new and had it done. He had a S3 done at the same time.
Not to say it one... hasn't been flashed or two...overwritten with another  company's map. Guess it will have to go on thr Dyno to see if it's running higher bhp/torque than stock

Cloned map/ecu..?

What's the flash count in VCDS?  It should be at 1 if it's just been Revoed.  If it's greater than 1, it's been overwritten elsewhere.  The Flash count is basically a counter for EPROM overwrites and was an easy way for dealers to check if the ECU was factory or not, before the days of the more sophisticated 'TD1' warranty void flag.  Factory flash count being 0 obviously

Anyway, if the flash count is 1, then it's likely still Revoed, but an easy way to confirm is to pull the battery.  If the car is slow afterwards, it's definitely Revo software.....but you'll need an SPS switch to get your performance back.

I went through this with mine as well.  No history from the previous owner, but flash count was 1.  Took it up to my tuner (who is/was also a Revo dealer) and he couldn't tell what the software was either!  In the end we managed to over write it with his own tune as he has the necessary Revo hardware to facilitate it.  Without it, you can never change from Revo, short of buying a new ECU, or maybe visiting Revo HQ and have them take a look at it.

PM me the reg and I can check the chassis number with Revo.  They will tell me if it had been mapped and where.
