Called edwin may in colraine for a price to replace cam chain and tensioner looking £578 i think this a bit much. Wat do u think?
-
I've seen the figure £450 mentioned a few times. Yet to get a quote myself.
-
Cam chain or cam belt?
as far I am aware they are different items, the chain usually cost somewhat more than the belt to replace
-
Isn't the labour 4 hours or so to do cam chain and tensioner?
-
Yes cam chain
-
So then I'd try and get prices for the parts from VW oor TPS then add on 4 hrs of labour plus the dreaded vat and take it from there?
Not had mine done yet so can't give you any comparison.
-
I think it was £330 for mine at psi tuning
-
The genuine chain was £70 odd when I bought one last year. The tensioner is quite expensive if its genuine too! Obviously they may source cheaper parts
-
Its not far off a decent price. Get some quotes elsewhere. I think vwauditec in Chelmsford do it for less then £500 I believe @FrameSet (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=8891) got theirs done there.
I managed to get a genuine chain and tensioner for £35 off ebay  when I did it

Coleraine in Northern Ireland?
