Hi all,
Apologies if this is in the wrong section! The edition is due a service, I usually get it serviced at a specialist near my work (fully stamped with vw specialist in the book) but have recently change jobs and don't know whether I can justify the 60 mile round trip for the service.
Have rung round a few places local that say they are vw mad and specialists etc. on website. But they have informed that the stamp is standard with no mention of vw anywhere to be seen. Is this a problem when selling the car?
The car has full service history at either vw or specialist apart from when it was 2 and Arnold Clark decided to mess the history up!
Interested to see what people think as I don't want to affect the resale value for the sake of 100 quid! Lol

Typically on this forum most people are enthusiasts and are happy to see that it was serviced at the appropriate time even if it was a diy.
Who has completed the service really does not seem to impact the sale whatsoever.
I sometimes go to VW direct for peace of mind and to save me time but that's just my personal choosing.

I too use a main dealer as I find for servicing they are comparable to independents and as a plus all the genuine vag parts are warranted for 2 yrs with no quibble

From my experiences with dealerships, specialists are usually preferred. As long as it's been serviced on time I'd be happy.

In my opinion, I wouldn't use VW after the car is out of it's warranty period. Cost per hour of labour is crazy. Plenty of specialists out there with access to all the tools and parts that the dealers have.
I think that as long as OEM VAG parts are used by whoever services the car, and as mentioned, the car is serviced on time - then it shouldn't affect resale value at all, IMHO. A stamp not mentioning VW specifically shouldn't be an issue to most reasonable people when buying an older car.
I guess there could always be those who won't look at anything other than main dealer serviced cars, but think they must have money to burn & unrealistic expectations on an 11-9yr old Edition 30!
My ED30 was serviced by a VW specialist at 40k with OEM VW parts, and VW later sold it to me under their 'Used Approved VW' scheme at 47k with the usual 12months warranty.
I've used APS in Brackley ever since I bought the car - it's a bit more than the round trip of Dan's 60 miles for me, but a few quid on petrol for the honest opinion & experience of those who mostly work with the performance platform cars more often than not is worth it to me.
No mention of VW in their stamp in the book but what does that matter when you have a very detailed invoice to back up a garage stamp?

Used my local VW main dealer for last 11 years and with the discount I get given they are cheaper than a VW Indy. They also match quotes for any other work I have done.

I use my dealer, for 2 reasons:
1) I have an Edition 30 and people are absolutely obsessed with mileage and FSH on these cars. I have no intention to sell it currently, but if I do, it's peace of mind no one can quibble on it's upkeep. If I had a 10 year old regular GTI, I'd probably service it myself or an Indy.
2) My dealer is a good one and I trust them. Their service pricing is not that bad all things considered and let's face it, when it comes to after service complaints and issues, you stand a better chance of getting it resolved swiftly at a main dealer....and you get a free valet....and a courtesy car....and it's 5 min walk from my work.

I have owned my Gti from new and discontinued the main dealer servicing once the warranty had expired. It then went to an independant whom I have known for a couple of decades and he found the pollen filter to be choked despite having my having been charged for a replacement the previous year. This official dealer also did a crappy job on some parking scrape paintwork and then subsequently lied to VW UK when I lodged a complaint. Quite candidly, I would recommend a trustworthy independent / specialist over a main dealer and would be more focused on the attention to detail shown by the owner eg quality of oil used than whom they have used for routine servicing.
