Title: Guide me home lights on mk5
Post by: Airs79 on January 12, 2017, 05:04:01 pm
Hi all, my headlights come on for a few seconds when I unlock my mk5 gti which is great. How do I get them to come on (guide me home) when I lock my car?  I'm sure the message on the dashboard is on 10 secs for both. Any ideas? Anyone else had this problem?
Cheers

Mine don't come on when I lock the car either, but then again, that seems kind of pointless to me anyway!

That feature and the auto lights surely must shorten the life of the bulbs and ballast?

It's handy if you have a dark driveway without a spotlight, if the lights are pointing to your door the extra 10 seconds of light can help you out.

I doubt it would shorten the lifespan to any considerable extent, if you think about it, your lights are on for an hour long drive on the way home. What's another 10 seconds?

Ah gotcha, that makes sense.  Doesn't apply to me   As you were gentlemen......why doesn't it work then?

I was thinking more when you power the bulbs up.  Takes a lot of energy compared to leaving them on, and is when they usually blow.
