Hi all, I'm thinking of taking the 2.0 TDI letters off the tailgate but I just wondered if it'll leave marks ? Thanks
-
No marks just residue.
Use fishing wire or credit card to remove then use wd40 or similar to get the rest of the sticky stuff off. Then follow up with a bit of Polish if needed.

I used a credit card and tar and glue to get the residue. My old gttdi

Thanks both :)

if you heat the letters up with a hairdryer or what i did was pour hot water over them it softens the glue so more comes off with the badge and you'll have less work cleaning up whats left

Dental floss. Cuts through the adhesive nicely.
Then the usual tar/residue remover.
On some cars a light cut then polish was needed as a final stage as the paint under the badge hadn't been subject to the same weathering and/or washing and polishing as the rest of the car, so you'd end up with a kind of 'stencil' of the badge.
Done.

Thanks for this - been meaning to replace my rear badges with the new MK7 red badges I've got. These tips will come in handy!

WD40 works fine for removing the residue, bit cheaper than the tar remover too ;)

I removed mine and i got them "marked" at the paint. Already tried to polish it but i can't remove the burn.
