Managed to get my hands on a MK6 GTI steering wheel I was just wondering if the polo airbag will fit the mk6 gti steering wheel or not ? Like this one for example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLKSWAGEN-VW-POLO-2011-Airbag-Driver-Steering-Wheel-MK5-6R-6R0880201D-/262743151810?hash=item3d2cb654c2:g:KKoAAOSwcUBYP-ee
I also know I might need a new slip ring so ordered one just encase, and I've found the correct steering wheel control module. Would I need anything else ?
-
No it won't, the fitment on the reverse is completely different to the Golf one shown like below (Golf left, Polo Right).

Even more confusing there are two types of airbags for the MK6 GTI, one for MFSW and one standard. You need to get it right otherwise you may have a hard time depressing the horn function.
When buying the airbag make sure it comes with the harness wire, otherwise you need to purchase that on top too.
-
Your right that is confusing specially as they look very similar from the front. Thanks for your help I'll have to make sure I purchase the right airbag, do you have an idea of what the harness wire looks like ? So I know what to look for in pictures. Thanks

You'll be looking for something like this:

Though the one above is for the MFSW airbag (5K0 971 584C), the standard one have a different harness. Is your steering wheel multifunction or standard?
-
That shouldn't be to hard to spot hopefully  and my steering wheel is a multi function one, just need to order all the correct parts and get it fitted now

Ah you'll be looking for an airbag with part number like 5K0 880 201 AC for MFSW.
Good luck with the search, I'm sure you'll appreciate it once it's all fitted in as I did!

Looks really slick that does, just brings the interior a bit more up to date, the colour of the highlines really compliment the stitching on the steering wheel aswell, how hard were they to install ?
-
As long you follow the retrofit guides it should be straightforward, the MK6 airbag is a bit of a pig to fit in so it needs a firm hand. Ensure you have access to VCDS before doing this retrofit as it will need coding with the Steering Adaptation after.
-
I see you have refreshed your knob too! Is that from a MK6 also?

Indeed it is, the gearknob is from the Edition 35 GTI (1K8 711 113 B MAW) and is a straight fit on the MK5.
