Title: What the hell is this???

So found this on my mates Gti today when I was changing his battery...
Anyone know what it is?
It was connected to the positive and neg terminals and the neg term also had another cable looping to the water pump bolt..

A tilt/motion sensor to an aftermarket alarm maybe?

I am hazarding a guess its one of those voltage stabiliser things due the thick gauge wires
