I just got a 07 edition 30 on tue and when I got home I noticed slight bubbling on the both wings. So today I called my vw dealers which is Edwin may in colraine they told me I had to have owned the car for a year and would not do anything. Bloody joke I thought I emailed vw uk to see wat they say. Any advice welcome paint is original on both wings and car has been looked after. Is the warranty not with the car and not the owner.
-
Warranty is with the car mate iv having problems sorting mine out too they give any excuse
-
Sounds like nonsense. You'll either get a dealer that plays ball or a dealer that plays games.
Maybe try a different dealer if there are any others nearby.
-
Mugging you off there mate, I bought my car in June and took it in a couple of weeks later, its been a long wait but it got approved on tuesday, I took it in today and got a polo in exchange for the week they have it until next Thursday for two new front wings.

@JamieKirk95 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=16258) lucky you mate i think i also need to try another branch but i dont which one in london that will sort it
-
I think it really depends who you see on the day too because one can be useless and want nothing to do with it, you could go to the same dealership another day and have a completely different story. I went straight to the bodyshop manager with the technical bulletin so he knew that I knew what I was on about, to be fair to him he's done a good job of sorting it out!
-
Print off a copy of the technical bulletin on the issue take it with you. They don't have a leg to stand on.
Unfortunately my rust is on the rear wings (where it meets the bumper) and the is no bulletin for that issue.
-
Thanks were can I get the technical bulletin cam u get me a link to it? I really want to thank all the ones that have told be the dealers are just fobbing me off.
-
My wings sills and boot lid were all covered under warranty for free - as others have said - try a different dealer

It helps a LOT going to a dealer where they know your face. Luckily the 2 dealers I use are sick of the sight of me
Another piece of advice I can offer is don't go in there with a bullish "I know my rights" attitude off the bat. Give them a chance with the softly softly approach first, you've just bought the car you've always wanted, you're gutted the wings are rusting, what can they do for you..... that kind of peace keeping bum licking shat. From talking to friends I have at dealers, warranty claims are an absolute paper chain and bureaucracy nightmare for franchises. VW HQ are difficult to deal with for them, let alone us. So will naturally try and shy away from it initially. Go there on a Friday as well because moods are generally better because of the impending weekend.
Not making excuses for them, but a little bit of friendliness goes a long way. If they fail to deliver, THEN you can unleash your wrath :happy2:
I was extremely fortunate in that mine only needed one wing and they did it within 2 days of my complaint and to an amazing standard. You would never know it had a new wing, not even under street lights at night.

Load of sh*te that you have to own the car a year. Agnews Belfast covered mine 100%, 2 months after I bought it last year.
-
Who has the technical bulletin ?

I've got some minor bubbling on the rear arch and am going to take it down on my next day off in the week. Not sure I'll get far as there a bit of a scratch on the arch around where the bubbling is. Its not through the paint but I expect them to use that as a get out of jail card, we shall see.
-
My local vw dealer couldn't help because they hadn't got the bodywork facilities,so the next/nearest available dealer I used and they did both wings and 1 sill at no cost to me,after 12mths of owning the car. If it's in the corrosion warranty period it should be sorted no questions asked!?
-
Mines is a 54" on a late 2004 I think so I think its out of paintwork warranty? I tried VW and they sent me to their approved body shop who rejected the claim on the basis the wings had already been repainted, which I find hard to believe.
How much to VW original wings cost and where's the cheapest place to get them?
-
I picked up my 55 plate MK5 a month or so ago. Noticed the bubbling on both front wings a few days afterwards.
After trying to get hold of the one guy who deals with warranties at my local dealership for about 3 weeks, he finally appeared and checked the paint on my wings.
And....?
They both been resprayed at some point
Both were showing readings of 180-190, whereas factory paint should be about 110, apparently. Can anyone confirm this?

Get an appointment for Agnew's repair centre on Boucher road, they'll look after you.

When I enquired
recently at my local dealer the front wings were £155 each or there abouts.

Taking my 56 plate into Inchcape Chester this week for inspection. No doubt they will fob me off with the old 'your wings have been repaired/repainted at some point'
Just for clarification does anyone know the factory paint thickness? I would expect around 120 microns but not sure about VW
