Title: Poweflex Bushes? Can someone please enlighten me?
Post by: peter_booker2003 on February 17, 2017, 07:06:54 pm
Looking for a bit of information on Powerflex Bushes. I've had a look online and seen some videos of them in action. Can someone talk me through which ones are the most vital, where to buy etc?

Appreciate its a bit of a basic question but hoping someone can shed some light.

Cheers

The front set of wishbone bushes make the most difference.

I'll let you know my opinion in a couple of weeks as having front wishbones, anti-roll bar and engine mount bushes replaces with Powerflex purple....and then I'll report further a couple of weeks after that once the first track day of the year is done  :happy2:

I have powerflex purple in my front wishbones and ARB, and the black edition insert for the rear gearbox mount.

The ARB bushes made minimal difference, but the wishbone bushes definitely firm things up. The 'insert' for the rear mount is a must and a bargain at £20odd for the difference it makes

How did the change to Powerflex effect the day-to-day ride of the car? Will still be using mine daily for the short commute to work and wondered if I should warn my dentist of impending loose fillings?!!!

Again the wishbone bushes were most noticeable, its certainly stiffer and less forgiving over bumps but nothing to contact the dentist over, and that's lowered on H&Rs too

Is this the rear insert? https://www.powerflex.co.uk/road-series/product-details/Lower+Engine+Mount+Insert+%28Large%29/505.html

And are these the wishbone bushes?

https://www.powerflex.co.uk/road-series/product-details/Front+Wishbone+Front+Bush/502.html - Front wishbone front bush (they are black not purple)

https://www.powerflex.co.uk/road-series/product-details/Front+Wishbone+Rear+Bush+/503.html - Front wishbone rear bush (again these are black?)

Thanks

There are two types of insert as the mount void/design changed after a certain year so you will need to check which one to get. I'd go for the stiffest insert you can though as you still have the standard rubber surrounding it so you have plenty of 'give'. My 57 (MY08) Leon had the older style insert, so I have: http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/SEAT_Leon_2.0_2008/p/accessories-performance-car-parts/performance-car-parts/performance-suspension/performance-bushes/?973440555&1&30c23862ad24f966ce4668f533f4063d3dc0a952&000973

The front bush is:

Anyone know the dimension for the 21mm bolt that holds the "insert" in place. Most guides say that they need to be replaced as they are single use one stretch...

21mm? That's pretty short...

It's a M14 x 70mm with a 1.5mm pitch

http://www.oemepc.com/vw/part_single/catalog/vw/markt/RDW/modell/GOLF/year/2008/drive_standart/614/hg_ug/199/subcategory/199020/part_id/3682881/lang/e#sec_30

The size of the head of the bolt depends on the bolt itself. Most I've seen vary between 19 and 22mm
