Title: Forge Turbo Muffler Delete Pipe (EA113 KO4 Engine)
Post by: Dave J on February 18, 2017, 05:33:06 pm
Good afternoon all,

Has anyone any experience of the above part? I've not read of anyone on here having one fitted, so wonder if it is a pointless noisy upgrade? There's no mention of any performance increase other than 'improved response'.

Cheers,
Dave

Buy the chinese boost pipe kit from ebay for around £120. Comes with a silencer delete pipe, charge and throttle pipes. Much better value. The part on its own will make no real difference

Along with an S3/6R intercooler and a modified discharge pipe (standard end cut off and replaced with a 2.25" rolled end), the forge part is a good way to delete the final O ring connection.  On it's own, zero gain.

If you still have the standard intercooler and leaky O ring connections, you might be surprised how different the engine feels after doing that.

Out of curiosity, I tried one of those aftermarket KO4 'hi flow' discharge pipe with muffler delete kits and was so underwhelmed, I sold it on immediately.   The factory parts are very good.  You just need to shift the O rings and get all of the boost instead of some of it.

Just an update to this. I've fitted the Forge muffler delete and the modified discharge pipe. I now have zero bayonet connections and it drives all the better for it and no more oily patches on the under tray.  Definitely worth doing this

There is no extra noise from the forge muffler delete.  Maybe it only affects K03 turbos?

A bit off topic but should there be some kind of seal in behind the muffler on the turbo? I took mine off my new turbo and didn't see one

Yep, there is an O ring in the compressor housing to seal the muffler. Part no. WHT006482.  74.8 x 1.65mm O ring.

They're on back order from Germany as I need a new one.  Mine's squished flat a bit.

Surprised yours is boosting OK without one!

Before you order one, I took the seal out of my TTE420 to use on my KO4 in the meantime and noticed it's a bigger seal than I said above.  85mm diameter.

But you can see there definitely is a seal there, in KO4s at least.  KO3s may be different?

Thanks pudding, I've not fitted my k04 yet but when I took the muffler out there definetly isn't a seal there, there is a cut out for the seal to sit in which is why I was wondering.

I'll go to Audi at some point and order one along with the diverter valve mounting flange and a few other random bits.

It's odd that my "brand new" second hand turbo is missing the seal

I can confirm the part number I quoted for the seal is for a K03 turbo!

RE your KO4 missing it's seal, well that is just weird, but I guess humans can forget things sometimes!

The turbo is technically second hand and had a broken n75 valve so I suspect foul play by the previous owner!

I'll need to get a seal ordered as my boost pipes have arrived in Glasgow from china eventually so will be delivered by Wednesday!

These ones mate 261675948859.

Think they took my offer at £120, only problem I have is that I ordered them on the 1/3/17 and that's me just getting them.

I don't think they even sent them the first time. Had to pay £24 customs on top of the £120 too but sill much cheaper than uk suppliers.

Richie-VRS did you find part number for K04 seal between turbo and muffler?

Sadly not as of yet. I spoke to Cardiff audi on eBay as I was buying bits from them anyway, they say it's not available separately however I'm not sure if they just couldn't find it as it seems odd that an o ring isn't available.

I've not been into my local Audi yet.

If someone have spare one can mesaure it and then you can get it in store with o-rings... If we get dimension will help a lot...

I'm sure it's 83mm x 1.2mm.  I'll measure one tonight if I remember.

89mm outside diameter x 1.8mm thick.

Ebay has a 3mm one after a quick search https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwij74XymrHUAhXOFtMKHfBuCykYABAbGgJ3Yg&ohost=www.google.co.uk&cid=CAASEuRocsSK8BL2bJqrRr1X3Q_ZxQ&sig=AOD64_0M7Z-laKGQF6LwkOQAekd40PZvig&ctype=5&q=&ved=0ahUKEwj13ILymrHUAhVGUlAKHfl3C9wQwg8ILQ&adurl=

2mm would be OK

Oooh Viton, even better  :happy2:

Pricey yeah, but the only way to get that seal from VW is to buy the whole turbo!

Well that explains why my turbo came without one I guess, quite annoyed as I could have been chasing a boost leak for ages, I'd have never suspected a seal to be leaking there on a "brand new" turbo.

Thanks for getting the sizes Pudding, you've been a star and thanks _Dejan_ for finding that seal, best I could find was 89x2.0 which would have worked but I'd rather be as close as possible.

I got some creation motorsport hardpipes from ebay and they came with the muffler delete , and what a load of sh*te , took me a  few hours a night to get fitted right , had to chop the bracket off 1 pipe as it was touching the fans and they wouldn't turn , discharge pipe blow off twice , and the muffler wouldn't seal at all , so I ordered the forge 1 and put the standard boost pipes on , how ever I had to cut 20/25mm of the farge samco pipe to get a nice fit
hope this helps

The Forge delete is the best by a country mile.

The Forge delete is the best by a country mile.

I retract that statement!

I took it out today to refit a standard discharge pipe and I wasn't too pleased with what I saw.  It was clearly leaking, judging by the oil misting.

The internal seal doesn't look too far away from complete disintegration either.  It clearly doesn't like oil or heat.

I think the oil misting may have been down to a poor seal on the turbo housing.  The 10mm bolts were torque down properly, but you can clearly see the oily witness marks where the seal wasn't compressed down equally around the circumference.

Maybe other brands of delete are better but I would steer clear of this one personally.   And yes, I think my turbo seals are letting go.  That's a fair splash of oil there.
