Title: Do rear caliper refurb kits do the job?
Post by: Lewo on February 21, 2017, 12:34:19 pm
The NSR sticks when pulling away if the cars been parked overnight and it's been wet weather.
Seen this kit on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311353485555?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311353485555?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT)
Has anyone used these to get the brakes working as they should?
Easy enough to fit?
Cheers

Thats the pad sticking to the disc. A refurb kit wont really help that.

As above, that's standard flash corrosion and all cars with steel brakes do that.

If the NSR sticks on permanently, different story.   You'll know when that happens because at the end of your journey, your nose is distinctly aware of eau de brake dust, and that wheel will feel hotter than it's opposite.

And no, in that situation, don't bother with a refurb kit unless the piston is totally mint.  If it's corroded and pitted, you'll be wasting your time and money.  Just get a new caliper.

Just have a sniff near the rear wheels and you'll smell burning of they're seized and yes the wheel will be mega hot!!

Cheers guys, pretty sure it's only the first start from parked overnight that they stick but I'll check the heat thing out.
There are lips on the discs and mate is going to fit new discs and pads next week, just thought if there was a problem with the piston sticking I should sort that out first.
The kit in the link includes piston and seals btw.
I bought some 'standard' brembo discs from ECP and just wondering what pads to use with them....?

What people fail to realise is when they go too far down to the bare minimal on the pads is when the calipers start to seized up and stick but don't get me wrong here as it's just how I understand the rear braking and what I've come across in the past.  :happy2:

Yep, just like tyres, don't wait until there's nothing left before replacing them!   I replace my pads when there's about 5 or 6mm material left.  That stops the pistons extending too far and minimizes the risk of corrosion making them bind.

Yeah this!

Bought my car and there was F all left on the pads, one of the calipers seized up good and had to replace it!

Recently I had sticking rear caliper. Tyre pressure warning light turned on because of the wheel was getting hotter and pressure was rising. Brake disc was super hot and burned my finger when touching it  :stupid:.
Problem was small corrosion on piston. All I did was took piston out, sanded corrosion away and reassembled it. Rubber parts were fine.
