Title: Mk5 Golf GTi - Retro Fitting Xenon Headlights
Post by: dennisgti on March 02, 2017, 04:39:16 pm
Hi,  I am looking at buying a Mk5 GTi.  I previously had an Edition 30 which I should never have sold.  I really want Xenon headlights but this limits my choice of decent Mk5 GTi's.  Can I retro fit genuine VW Xenon headlights to a Mk5 which has standard lights?  If I can, what needs to change on the wiring etc...  Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,  Martyn

Might be possible or might be easier to go down the installing of depo headlights.

@RetroRaz (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6494) is my go to guy for fitting these bits and he does a excellent job

Yes you can retrofit the xenon headlights.  Kufatec do a wiring adaptor which makes it plug and play along with a bit of coding.  If you want to go the whole hog and fit washers etc that's a bit more involved.

I believe it's just the kufatec loom and a bit of coding that is required.

I went for the depo's however.

Genuine ones start at around £350 and can go up to £600 depending on condition, Plug and play with a kufatec loom and just tick Xenons fitted box with VCDS

Hi Pal, I posted about this - it may result in a MOT failure as there is no headlamp washers. I'm sure they'll be more experienced people who will comment on this though.

If you do it, before and after pics would be great

If fitted, the levelling sensors and headlamp washers must work. I have OEM Xenons retrofitted and the car's been through many MOTs incl IIRC one done by VW.

Also I just retro fitted OEM xenons, got a really solid company called hazzydayz in Luton to get it done. They deal only with OEM VAG group parts. I have been explicitly told that even without the headlamp washers and auto levelling I will 100% pass an MOT.

Please see the current VOSA MOT guidelines for these:

"Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge(HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system. Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given.

The price for what they are offering seems a bit excessive, minimum without leveling and washers is £1450 :scared:

At £1450 I'd say that's what a dealer would charge for a full retrofit with leveling and washers

Guys,  thanks for all the replies.  I have ended up buying another Golf Mk5 GTi with Xenons and a few modifications.
I am in the process of adding MFSW buttons and cruise control to my new purchase.  Its a DSG GTi so should not be a problem.
I have the standard RCD510 Sat Nav and I am looking to upgrade this with Bluetooth and I have been told the FISCON kit is best as it will display on my red DIS.

I am like a kid in a sweet shop with all the mods you can do.

Cheers,  Martyn
