Title: PROBLEM UPDATING JAPANESE RNS 510 FIRMWARE FOR UK MAPS

Hi All

New here, ive got a import 2009 vw with a RNS 510 unit which im trying to uodate the firmware to add uk maps for the sat nav but its coming up with SWL ERROR 010303
When i use V5238 FIRMWARE DISC.

can anyone let me how i can sort this :scared:

Spoke to someone who advised that it could be a problem with the laser thats why its not reading the firmware disc, it plays cd music fine so not sure what it is

You can try cleaning the lenses with a lenses cleaning DVD/CD. :wink:

I had this on mine and it was the laser on the unit that couldnot read dvd disc so I just bought a new unit

Was yours playing music cds dvds like normal and just coming up with a SWL error when trying to load the 5238 firmware?

You have to use good quality DVD, preferably from Verbatim, and DVD+R for firmware and DVD+R DL for maps. Then you burn them at the slowest possible speed. You can also clean the lenses of your DVD burner.

You also mentioned josi firmware 5238 firmware which should work on the Japanese 510,  there is no way i can burn josi firmware in the above quality as i dont have a clue how to do this. I need to buy the josi firmware and uk maps in the above quality but dont have a clue where from??

Try to get a local friend to help you with burning the DVD. Someone who knows a bit of Informatics will be able to do it easily.
