Title: Cambelt time
Post by: slix on March 12, 2017, 11:18:55 am
Trying to work out costs really, whether it's better to get the parts myself and take it to my local mechanic or go with VW fixed price cambelt and waterpump for £480ish.

How much are the parts above on their own? Also any part numbers will be a great help as want to get oem parts.

Was £375 through my independent for cambelt and waterpump with genuine parts, so quite a saving over the VW dealers fixed prices.
Cambelt kit - £160.65
Waterpump - £46.28
Coolant - £7.12 qty 2 of.

The rest was labour - 4.25hrs at £40
Plus then a discount.
I also had my thermostat done as it was faulty to save on redoing the coolant over again. Though that is not included in the cost above.

Don't have the part numbers on my order but think they should be:
cambelt kit - 06F198119A
pump - 06F121011

Thanks.

You reminded me I might as well give my mechanic the thermostat to do at the same time to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

My dealer often do £349 deals on cambelt/waterpump replacements, which is pretty reasonable!   They also replace the engine mount bolts (stretch type) for peace of mind.  There's been a big hoo ha at VAG about that following a few cases of engines dropping out from reused bolts snapping.

I did my stat and t belt water pump and it took me 5hrs after waiting for a jack for 3 hours as I'd left mine at home
Yeah better to have the stat done at the same time  :happy2:
