Title: Water leaking - radiator blown?
Post by: shoaybmakda on March 15, 2017, 07:49:45 pm
Hi all

Just parked my car up and switched it off only to find that it seems water has exploded everywhere under the bay and leaking from the front of the bumper and steam coming out.

Probably answering my own question - is it s blown radiator of hose? What's the probability of me being able to drive it home which is a mile away?

The coolant tank is on minimum (not empty)

Thanks for the help in advance

I really wouldn't risk driving it mate. It's more likely a hose or fitting if it's suddenly gone in one go, but that's no better than a guess without seeing it. Get it towed. Don't take the chance.

Thanks for the advice @AJP (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11926)

Anyone have any idea what's best to replace it with?

Found the issue - it's not the radiator it's actually a pipe under my intake which seems to have rubbed against the intake (possibly vibrations?) and has caused t to split.

This video shows a bit of detail what needs doing:
