I've just managed to get my car booked in at Lookers VW in Newcastle to have the rust on my sills photographed for submission to VW Warranty to review. I've been told I'll only get a contribution at best which seems consistent with what I've read online. However most posts are from a few years ago and I was wondering if anyone has had a success recently?

Yeup its better to go to a approved vw/audi body shop instead of alan day as theyll help more i learnt the hard way

I've just heard back from VW, who have confirmed that they will make a 50% contribution towards the repair and repainting of both sills, at a cost of £452 to me. I had originally thought this was excessive and looked elsewhere, but both body shops I visited quoted me £500 for the same job.
I decided to chose the VW option, mainly because I felt it would add to the credibility of my car when I come to sell it. I know some people have a low option of VW workmanship, but deciding between a independent Body shop and VW, a potential buyer would, on the whole, most would prefer to see a VW badge against the work.

Chris is there a time limit on getting the sills done by Vw ie my car is 2006/56 with 100k on the clock with full main dealer history.thanks

Hey, just had mine done two weeks ago down in Shrewsbury, however mine were done for free and the only thing I had to pay for was 20 quid for a courtesy car, also to who it was that asked, the warranty for paint and body is 12 years.
Id try.to get them give 100% contribution mate and also try other dealerships too as I tried three after I was fobbed off by 2, glad I persisted as it saved me alot of money

I tried to get mine sorted, I was back and forth with 5 different places telling me they couldn't do it, then they could, then they needed various things. Eventually, my local VW garage (the first place I tried...) decided they could take the car to the closest body shop they had to see if I qualified.
They came back saying I didn't because there was evidence it had been painted before, even after explaining I bought the car off my parents who had it from new and it had never been resprayed they still weren't having it.
Seems to be hit and miss if you get it done unfortunately :/

What was the evidence they provided? The paint just has to be a certain thickness for it to qualify.
It's a bit of a lottery really and entirely dependent on the dealer you take it to. I think VW just want to wash their hands with it and get us all into brand new MK7s instead......but why they think pissing off brand loyal customers like this would tempt us into a brand new Golf is a mystery to me.
