Title: Front grill question
Post by: barelyrelevant on April 01, 2017, 07:26:35 pm
The car just keeps on giving at the moment, went to check the oil and then the bonnet wouldn't close.  :fighting:

Whilst taking the grill off to remove the bonnet catch I noticed the two t25 screws on each side of the grill wouldn't really tighten down.

I can't see/feel anything underneath for them to bite into, are they just meant to grab into the plastic of the bumper or am I missing some clips or something?

Was just going to put a larger size screw in but would rather fix it properly if there's meant to be something there.

Thanks in advance.

Supposed to be a threaded metal connection under IIRC.

I just removed mine yesterday.

When you're tightening the screw, you can often overtighten and it will rip the metal connection underneath right off such that when you next remove the grill, the threaded connector falls off.

If you had just removed the grill look on the ground and around the engine bay.

I think it's a square about 3mm thick with a circle in the middle which is threaded.

I stripped one side of mine. Drilled both sides  out (5mm bit) placed a 5mm rivet nut from below (tricky) and a suitable button head and washer on top
