I'm looking for a kit at the moment that's a lot cheaper then the Tyrol sport kit.
Must be worth a try I might have to purchase this kit and give it ago.

I'd be up for a set.  See if we can get a group order and split the shipping costs coz Awesome don't show it on their site.

I'd be up for a group buy too!

I've used these to no joy for my clunking/knocking sound - https://www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-brand/ecs-tuning/subframe-spacer-plates-kit-mk5-mk6-etc/

By the time you've messed about paying shipping and import duty then it won't be such a good deal.

Tyrol kit is 85 quid from aks tuning.

Think that's for the rear kit mate, the front one is £200+

Beg your pardon... missed that.

I spoke to Awesome about this kit earlier on - Without asking them about a group buy they said it's available for £112.01 delivered but it won't be until next month that I receive the kit.

It's not available any earlier as they have a monthly ordering system with them and we've missed this months cut off.

If anybody wants to speak to them and discuss a possible GB then go for it and let us know!  :happy2:

How do we go about getting a group buy on this going.

Interested..... Have had clunking since the last time I had the subframe off that even an extra 1/4 turn on the bolts won't fully eradicate

I think with the numbers involved and relatively small amount for the kit, we're better off letting Awesome handle the shipping and import duties.   Been there before in the past managing GBs from America and it can be a right pain.

I didn't know they sold them as their online catalogue of ECS stuff isn't complete, but good to know they can get them in.

I wonder if VW going back to steel subframes and MK2 Golf style rear wishbone bushes on the MK7 has anything to do with the MK5's problems with these parts

Had the Tyrol Sport fronts on mine for a couple of years now and the transformation was superb. Tightened the front end up and made a very noticeable.

Tempted to get the rear kit to see what that does to the handling.

I take it you had the knock as well.
Did this cure the problem.

I fitted the Tyrolsport kit yesterday, there is now no knock, the front just feels better, its defo not a placebo affect it 100% just feels more stable and planted.

need to go get me 4 wheel alignment done now so I know its all straight.

fyi this can be done on your drive with jacks and stands but I'm physically F**cked today, my shoulder blades are killing me even though I had padded matting, much better up in the air on ramps paying someone else to fit it, all in all, due to a few issues, I had 3 hours of plodding along in the sun and it was done.

also if you have previously drilled out your OEM ARB brackets and nuts to fit to H and R ARB's mind you don't push the nuts out if removing the ARB bolts to anti-seize compound them up, just saying like.

Good info.  I'll be saving that job for when it's on a ramp next!

Want to get this kit ordered would be nice to fit this when the exhaust is being fitted.
Makes sense whilst it's up on the ramps.
Great result @SI-R32 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1757)

I have all this stuff fitted but only started to knock once I fitted vibra technics mount.
This ain't the cause of the knock just when the subframe was dropped it's obviously started from then.

It's always more than you think when you do your own imports.   We need someone in the states to send stuff over as a gift for us

Did you align the notch on the Vibra mount with the anti roll bar?

I was replying to Stiggy as a possible cause for his knocking, but the previous owner already did the Vibra mount on mine, so not sure on the fitting procedures.

One thing I would recommend is caking it in anti-seize grease, because if you don't, it sure as hell ain't coming out of the subframe again!

Tried to replace it on mine with a newer one but it's corroded in there solid.

My bad. Can I be really cheeky and ask where u got your vwr shock and new front wheel bearings from and how much u paid mate.

Defo if he did it  :happy2:

The Vibra was on my car when I bought it, with OEM side mounts and it seems fine to me.  There are some weird rumbling noises when taking up the clutch around 1000rpm but not sure if that's the mount causing it.  I've driven a few 100% standard GTIs since owning mine and there's barely any difference in NVH  :happy2:

Sure thing bud.  Got the VWR shocks/springs from Awesome for £550ish I think, and the bearings were £120ish each from the dealer.   They went up £15 in February.  I only put genuine parts on my car so don't mind paying a bit more, but my dealer does me 10% off everything for loyalty anyway

Argh mines only been in for a couple Thousand miles so might need to settle more plus mine is dsg so you get more nvh anyways. Good mod tho could fill the difference when it was fitted. Just need the collar kit and fit my alloy hub housing. How you finding the vwr springs

Post by: pudding on April 22, 2017, 04:31:34 pm
Yeah they do soften up a bit.  Haven't driven a DSG TFSI, only an R32 and yeah they do have some noises and quirks!  Sure is, certainly helps cut the annoying wheel hop!

Collar kit is on my to do list.   Yeah loving the VWR stuff so far.  Better ride quality than standard and holds up nicely round the corners too  :happy2:

One thing I noticed and I'm not sure if it's because alloy wishbones and hubs are a softer density than steel, or if it's the VWR stuff, but there's a lot less road noise coming into the cabin now

Nice results then there @Pudding (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10733) I have the super pro alloy arms already fitted with the bushes was a great mod just need the hubs doing now.
I'm h&r springs with original dcc dampers so didn't want to change the dampers but was thinking of changing to vwr springs.
Reason being the car is now catching on speed bumps so was thinking vwr springs weren't as low as h&r. But not sure that is the case

DCC? Is yours a MK7?  My Ed30 hasn't caught on anything yet with the VWR springs, so they might be a bit higher than your H&Rs.

Mine sometimes catches on speed bumps with the VWR springs

Mk6 it is. Might be worth staying on the h&rs then need to get some good pics of the ride height up for me might not be much of a difference in it.
